Whats the deal with buying a GF4?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)
Posted by: SKYHN
I noticed that Newegg and some other sites have one of the GF4 MX cards already, but dont say anything about the others. Bestbuy is taking pre-orders on the VisionTek GF4 Ti 4600 but has a ship date of March 5th.
Im quite anxious to get a Ti 4200, Ive never had the liberty of owning a powerful card. I didnt expect the GF4's to hit the net right away, but I would expect some of the online sellers to at least say when they are expected to get shipments of GF4 cards.
Posted by: Bobaroo
That is the same card I want and I can't find any online store that has it.
Every other place (compusa, Bestbuy etc) are pre-ordering the Ti cards, and some places are selling the MX cards.
All I want is the GeForce 4 Ti4200
Posted by: JANNA
the cool thing about the gforce4 is the price of visiontek gforce3 at best buy are 149 after a 50$ rebate.
Posted by: SKYHN
Yeah Janna, I had seen that when I was there last week. It was quite tempting but that deal lasts til the 28th, so I let it go. I believe thats a GF3 Ti 200 card.
Now that I know about the GF4 Ti 4200 though, its a whole new ball game.
Posted by: Sarc
Well, since the card was released yesterday, most, if not all, sites are going to show a status of back-ordered or out of stock. It probably won't be very long though.
Though, keep in mind that with the Geforce 4 out, the price of GF III's is going to start to drop dramatically. After a short while you'll be able to get a GF III for probably around $200 +/-.
Either way, don't get a GF 4 MX, there not really a GF 4. They're not even DX 8 compliant!
Posted by: tkron
I read in one of the reviews that the GF4 Ti 4200 will be released about 8 weeks after the GF4 Ti 4400 and Ti 4600.
Posted by: SKYHN
Ugh..I hope not Tkron.
I got the money for the card right now, its just a matter of someone selling one to me. Pricewatch doesnt have any listed yet. Bestbuy, CompUSA and Newegg are the only 3 that have even said anything about them.

From a site that Wargy linked me to.....
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1583&p=5
A third GeForce4 model will be introduced in approximately 8 weeks, and that is the GeForce4 Ti 4200. The Ti 4200 will be identical to the 4600 and 4400 except that it will run at 225MHz core and 250MHz memory. The clock speeds haven't been finalized yet but the truly attractive point of the GeForce4 Ti 4200 is its $199 MSRP. The Ti 4200 will actually end up playing an extremely important role in NVIDIA's lineup but in order to understand why, you'll have to understand the GeForce4 MX - NVIDIA's mainstream graphics part.

How is that from tomshardware review? The author of that article is Anand Lal Shimpi and thats not even tomshardware website...
Well see.

I need to know if these new gf4's are compliant with my system. What do i need to know before i buy a geforce4? I dont want to run to the store buy the vid card, bring it home, put it in my system, Start up and find out i just fried my entire PC. My system specs are: P4 1.5ghz, 512mb RDRAM, 1 AGP bus, 2 pci Buses. I pulled this information from sisoft Sandra 2002. As to my current knowledge there are 2 diff types of vid cards, and i need the right 1. Thank you all for your time.
Posted by: SKYHN
It will run real nice on your system. Make sure you get an AGP card though, but I dont know if they have GF4's with PCI at all.
You might have to wait a while to find one depending on which one you want.
Posted by: tkron
The last most up to date PCI video card was the
GEFORCE2 MX-400 PCI 64MB VIDEO CARD
To my knowledge no GF3 PCI card has ever been released to the public.
Prior to that card it was the
TNT2-M64 PCI 32MB VIDEO CARD .
Posted by: SKYHN
But remember though, there was no GF3 MX series cards. The MX series are "Value" cards so most likely at least one is PCI.
I emailed Newegg and asked when they expected to get the GF4 Ti 4200 and got this response:
Dear Valued Customer -
We do not have an ETA or pricing estimate on this item at this time. If the item is on our website, and out of stock, there is the “Auto-Notify” button, which you can use, and we will let you know as soon as we have the item. Otherwise, watch our site closely as in demand items tend to fly off the virtual shelf pretty fast.
Thank you very much.
Mandy
Newegg.com Customer Service
I guess we will just have to check them everyday

Thanks for the tips, AGP Geforce4 it is then. Once i pop that baby in there i am going to be seeing stars at 120 FPS in RTCW!!!
Posted by: SKYHN
Well, the thing about FPS is that the human eye can only see 60 frames. But that extra power doesnt hurt.
With your system, you will probably get more than 120 FPS. What GF4 do you want to get?
Posted by: Darky!
If i'm not mistaken, GF4 is AGP 8x?
Posted by: SKYHN
It has 8x but is 4x compliant and i think 2x also.
Posted by: c0re
In reply to SKYHN, I am planning on getting the same card as you GeForce4 Ti 4200 AGP. I just cant say no to that $200 price tag and plus my vid card right now is a peice of crump. Any1 wanna buy a TNT2 m64? LOL, Alas i will be able to play all my games in 1024x768 32bit resolution!. Now what is this crap about The GeForce4 Ti4200 comeing out in 8 more weeks... I went to Nvidia's Official website and it showed the 4400 and 4600 models but Not the one that is $200(4200).
Posted by: SKYHN
They could have announced it early to get people that dont wanna wait to buy the higher cards. But im waiting for it.
Posted by: Spider
Get the Titanium 4600.
Posted by: SKYHN
Its $400! I just cant see spending that much on it.
Posted by: Spider
Yeah but it's super cool fast, and you said you wanted top-of-the-line graphics for once, so splurge.
Posted by: SKYHN
But why spend $400 when I will be more than happy with a $200 card? Dont forget im building a comp sometime this year and money will be no object, this is just to hold me over til then(which might be a while).
Posted by: Chako
The wisest thing is to wait a few months after the public release of the GF4.
There is a reason why its called "The bleeding edge of technology".
Let other fools do R&D testing with their equipment first.
Posted by: SKYHN
Well it looks like the Ti 4200 wont be out for a while, not until march at the earliest. That sucks majorly.
EDIT: Gah, now im mad cuz I gotta wait even longer to get a new video card. My original plan was to buy a new card in January, but that plan went to hell a long time ago, and now getting one this month is in the crapper too.
Posted by: SKYHN
Something strange is going on here....
Tomshardware is the only site I have seen that benchmarked the Ti 4200. Another site said something about it, but barely mentioned it in a paragraph.
Nvidia.com doesnt have it listed as well as VisionTek.com, PNY.com and many other of the manufacturing sites dont have it listed either, not even as "comming soon"...
Does the Ti 4200 card actually exist or is this a joke?
Posted by: SKYHN
GAH! No one will talk!
Dear SKYHN:
At this moment we do not any plans in the near future on a release or build of the 4200. I know the Ti 4600 is schedule to be release on March the 6th and the Ti 4400 a bit later on...
Sincerely
VisionTek Tech Support

Damnit, I want that card too
Posted by: JANNA
chako is right u guys should wait a bit something is fishy with the gforce4 chip

Toms hardware can go straight to he**. Inaccurate information is what i hate most. I cant afford $300 nor do i want the crummy Geforce4 mx's that dont even fully suppot dx8. Isnt there another alternative that is near the $200 range?
Posted by: SKYHN
Well the GF3 will probably drop to $170, but that was because of the GF4 Ti 4200. If that card is made up and never comes out, it will probably go to $200.
I wish there was some way to see if this card is real or not. Ill probably end up buying the Ti 4400 if its not.

What the hell is that avatar supposed to be?

GeForce3 Ti200.
How about we all stop calling the GF4MX the GF4, afterall it is based on GF2 technology, heh
Posted by: SKYHN
Its the Emblem of the Guild im in on DAOC, but it doesnt show up on here for some reason. Im looking for something different now.
We should call the GF4MX "Little Timmy Tone Deaf".
Posted by: Spider
Okay, it's the emblem of your DAoC guild, but what is it?
Posted by: SKYHN
Its 3 swords. But the problem is, that on camelotherald.com, the background of the emblem is sperate from the swords. Ill fix it soon though.
I attached the full thing.
Posted by: tkron
Actually the GeForce4 MX doesn't even support all the features from the GeForce 2.
It is basically a cheap card for business machines that will be used as workstations which do NOT require high end graphincs.
They did it to be price competitive with some of the cheaper cards.
Posted by: SKYHN
I believe Nvidia has said that the MX cards are designed for 2D office applications or for people on small budgets.
Go take a trip over to the IGN PC boards, there are people over there that sit there and totally brag about their MX cards. I mean brag to the point where you know they are lying so bad that it just makes you sick(well it makes me sick).

I am going to buy the GeForce 4 Ti4400 when it comes out in early march. i can't wait anymore for the GeForce4 Ti4200 to come out, my TNT2 is not holding up.
Posted by: SKYHN
Im gonna look at the benches on the 4400 again. I dont know if I can see spending $100 more though.
Posted by: Spider
You could always try getting an open-boxed unit, or you could buy OEM!
and nightmares ensue..
Posted by: SKYHN
How much cheaper is OEM though? When I was gonna buy a GF3 Ti 200, the OEM was only $20 cheaper than the Retail. The OEM had a lower warranty too(it was like 30 days instead of lifetime).
If this 4200 doesnt come out, ill just grab a Ti 500 and overclock it.
Posted by: SKYHN
EBGames.com has PNY GF4 Ti 4600 and 4400 for sale now. WHERES THE FREAKING 4200??????
Posted by: SKYHN
I think I am gonna go with a Ti 4400. It may be more money but this 4200 is gonna be another 6 to 8 weeks before its even officially announced.
Hopefully VisionTek has the 4400 with in a week or 2.
Posted by: Bobaroo
So when is the ti4400 suppose to come out. I have seen dates for 2/28, 3/5, 3/8, and I don't know which is right.
Posted by: SKYHN
I dont know WTF is going on, and its getting anoying...
Ive been watching newegg, and they still dont have anything but the GF4 MX cards. I dont know if VisionTek is going to release a Ti 4400, I know that PNY is though. I really want VisionTek brand though...
Posted by: Bobaroo
I don't care what company relaeses it PNY or Visiontek, either or I will get it.
Gateway.com is selling Pc's with the GeForce4 Ti4600 in it, and they are backordering the Visiontek Ti4400 for $284.
I know that ebgames.com is also backordering the Visiontek Ti4400 so it must be coming out.
Posted by: SKYHN
Hmm...Well I hadnt been checking out retail sites. VisionTek's website doesnt have the Ti 4400 listed, so I thought that they werent going to make it. I just want VisionTek because they come with VisionTek Overclocking software, but I been hearing that the GF4 is going to be hard to overclock because it runs very hot, about 140+f. I guess I will settle with PNY if thats what comes out first, same warranty, may even be cheaper.
EDIT: Hmm, i checked Visiontek.com and they have listed the Ti 4400 now. That wasnt there the other day!
Posted by: Staubach
Gateway also has a $50 coupon off accessories with free shipipng of $200+ orders...
GEforce for $285 - $50 + free shipping = Good Deal
Posted by: Bobaroo
Yea it is a good deal but first the damn card has to come out.
Posted by: SKYHN
Where is that coupon at?
Posted by: Bobaroo
Newegg.com has the GF4 Ti4600 from PNY, maybe in a few days the Ti4400 will come in.
Posted by: SKYHN
I would immagine they are gonna show up all over now.
Posted by: SKYHN
Where is this "Gateway $50 coupon off accessories with free shipipng of $200+ orders"? Ive looked all over their site and cant find it anywhere. They only show a free shipping on orders over $99.
Posted by: SKYHN
Ok now this is getting rediculous. Here we are March 6th and it is STILL not out yet. :sigh:
Posted by: Bobaroo
I can't stand it anymore. I got MOH:AA about 3 weeks ago and I can't play it because I need a new Vid card.
All I want to do is play my game!!
Posted by: Bobaroo
wait....maybe it is out.
Ebgames.com is selling a PNY GeForce 4 Ti4400 and Ti46000
Posted by: SKYHN
Newegg doesnt have it though. If I could find that $50 coupon that Staubach said, I would order it from gateway right now.
Posted by: SKYHN
Now gateway has taken the GF4's off their acessory store....THIS IS MADNESS!!!
Posted by: Bobaroo
After going to yahoo computers I found a lot of sites that sell The Gf4's for $260-300. The only problem is...is that I have never heard of the sites.
Posted by: Bobaroo
These are the GeForce4's I found
Posted by: SKYHN
Thats what I hate about the internet, too many shady sites.
I found this site that sells PS2 games for $14.99 each. I later found out they are copies. I dont see how they can sell those legally.
Posted by: Spork Lover
You know... they might be waiting for people to clear out their stock of exspensice GF3 cards out... because once those GF4 Ti cards are on the market in abundance, not many are going to want the top of the line gf3 cards.
Posted by: SKYHN
Well there is hope now, I found some sites that have the PNY GF4 Ti 4400 listed as to arrive on 3/11/02. The VisionTek ones are listed for the 3/21/02. Its so nice to see products released 1 1/2 months after they are announced.
Thats a still a long time for the VisionTek ones!
Posted by: Bobaroo
Ebgames has the PNY ones on backorder, and it says that the VisionTek ones are coming on 3/8....And well that is today.
