DS-Testie

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I dunno if any of you are still hardcore StarCraft gamers, or if you ever were. I once was, but now my interest in it has died off since all of the abusers, hackers, nukers, etc. However, the topic has once again taken it's next victim, DS-Testie. Even if you dont plat StarCraft anymore, or just play it occasionally, you have probably heard about DS-Testie. He is the guy that got in the Top 10 Ladder for the Spring Season on Battle.Net gaming service. If you did/heard of any background on this guy, he was a known cheater (map hacker). And as they say, "Once a hacker, always a hacker." Unfortunately, this turned out to be the case, yet again. A Battle Report/replay was just re-analyzed and found to be sufficient evidence that he (DS-Testie) did, in fact, hack. For anyone who wants the technicalities, keep on reading -
Quote:

There has been a trick floating around dubbed "Yellow drone"
that allows worker units to walk through all units when they are
trying to reach minerals in gather mode. The trick is useful for
scouting peons to get through hold-position enemy units
blocking the ramp. In the replay, Testie exploits this property of
the game to his own advantage by "scouting" with SCVs to
"discover" Liquid'Drone's 1 gate carrier rush. However, there
is something wrong with this picture: the trick only happens
when the minerals are visible, and not under fog of war.

Workers can always move toward mineral patches, regardless
of whether or not they are under fog of war. However, they
CANNOT go through units if the minerals are under fog of war,
but only if they currently have a unit or detection near the patch
with live vision on it. If you watch the replay a little after the 6
minute mark, Eri's fleet beacon is nearly finished. Testie then
sends out three SCVs to scout the base, walking through 3
goons, which would be impossible if Testie did not see his
minerals

I know a lot of people won't/don't really care about this, but I thought I would go ahead and say something on the issue. Testie was respected among top Battle.Net players. 99% of the Starcraft sites out there said that Testie was the only 100% legit player to make it on Battle.Net's Spring Ladder 2001 Season, Top 10. Man, if that wasn't a load of bullshit. This just goes to show that no matter what/who you think someone is, you, in reality, have no idea. DTA - Don't trust anyone that was for SCSA, LoL I just think, overall, in the recent year or two, the Starcraft community has dug itself in a really deep hole with the hacks and cheaters. Starcraft *was* a great came, and it will continue to be a great game, but its multiplayer greatness will never be like it was in the early days.

Yep even during the SC beta it became obvious to me that there are people in the world that will do ANYTHING to win, and are overly competitive.

He could have learned a valid lesson from world war 2.

He should have payed attention in school; no one would have caught him.

Who cares?

There does not exist in starcraft a cheat that can not be countered by simple skill and intellectual usage of units.

And if there is, no more than twenty people have it and it won't be used in a game with you.

It just gives an unfair advantage.

Posted by: Null Actor

Everything is an unfair advantage unless you clone yourself and play against him.

Posted by: smithersdd

good point Nova, there is always an unfair advantage. wat really sux, is that people who hack dont care, but when someone hacks against them they get so pissed off. I think they ruined SC's multiplayer and I haven't played it for almost a year now

Posted by: Bishop

The only people who ruined Multiplayer SC are thoose who refuse to play under the premise of "cheaters, hackers, and abusers".

I may be arrogant, but I don't really give a damn about people mapping, or whatever the hell they like to do.

Christ, I give people vision in almost every game, so it's not that big of a difference one way or the other.

Starcraft sucks

Go Play Mario.

Posted by: Digitalphatman

Actually its funny when peopledo use the map hackand then just magically quit the game before you even get to fight them. Most people that play with map hacks suck at the game like I do.

And Bishops right maps hacks really do nothing to the game. Counterstrike hacks are much worse.

Anyways we all know supersmash brothers melee is the best game ever.

But clones don't retain the memorys and the likes of the original. So not even that would work.

Posted by: Null Actor

I mean clone in the traditional sci fi sense. Not the current day actual science sense.

Bleh.

Before I go and read all the replies, in the original post, what the hell is that screenshot supposed to prove?

Don't give away the fact that you know everything about the enemy's movements.

I'm still not catching on...did they put that in a game yet?

Posted by: Null Actor

Maphacks.

If you use it, you know everything about the enemy's movements. DS-Testie would not have been caught if he had not given away the fact that he could see the whole map.

I was joking
