87 other kittens died? What? Thats sad.
Who would want to clone there pets anyway, sice they won't know who you are or anything of the sorts like the original would.

TECIL!!!!!

hehe j/k wenchy...
We have 3 cats ourselves.
I was just thinking along the lines that if they were going to clone them, at least we could do something good with that power and make and alternate food source.
Posted by: The_Druidess
Hmmm clonning is just not right I mean uhg think what the world could come to and well theres already enough homeless cats why clone more? But yes it was a cutie.
Posted by: smithersdd
cloning should be illegal, I mean think about it...not even being born but being created by a bunch of scientists. It's just not right
Posted by: redwench
not being born? news to me.
Posted by: smithersdd
yea, they are like out of an incubator or sumthing. it's discusting. Then again my favorite character, Solid Snake, is also a clone...
Posted by: redwench
incubator???????
youve been watching too much sci fi dude

WARNING: dumbed-down explanation of the cloning process and genetics in general ahead!
Cloned cats (and anything else cloned) are born just like un-cloned cats. Basically, cloning just involves making an egg cell out of genetic material from one cat and then implanting that fertilized egg into a "surrogate mother" cat. The cloned kitten is born like any other kitten, the only difference is that the kitten is an exact genetic copy of another cat, rather than a mix of mommy and daddy cat genes.
People are surrogate parents all the time.. and that involves artificial combining of genetic material (takes place in a petri dish) that is implanted into a surrogate. The only difference is that the genetic material comes from two people, rather than one (like in cloning).
Oh, and as a side note for those of you who don't really understand the genetic side of the reproductive process, a surrogate mother doesn't contribute ANY genetic material to the child she carries. And it's not possible to "grow" a clone in an "incubator." That cat in the picture was born two months ago.. it's not like they said "let's clone a cat" and came out with a cat that looked like that -- it started out as a newborn kitten!
For people who STILL don't understand the genetics involved.. go read a 9th grade biology book and all will become clear.

Wow it is amazing how what people in our society know to be "true". This is not a knock on you smithersdd, but actual reality versus what people beleive is reality has always amazed me.

Given the way cats deal with each other, or the way they respond to other cats in general.
Would the genetic mother in any way recognize the clone as anything other then another cat?
Posted by: Gerbilo
I got 2 fat SOB cats....
here is a picture of them sleeping on my bed....
Posted by: redwench
gerby, they look like theyre going to bite you
mem, from recent news items, animals can recognize genetic relatives by smell, including cats and rodents. but she wouldnt know it was her offspring, just that it was closely related.

Do they always sleep with their left eyes slightly open?

I have a cat and it would be really great if after he died I could have him all over again, I would pay plenty too.

That's actually pretty cool.
I like the faded text thing-a-ma-bobber

People think that if you get cloned ur clone will behave in the exact same way as you.
That's very wrong!
Identical twins are more alike than clones. They have the same exact genes and the same environmental/social influences. Clones have the same exact genes, but different environmental/social influences therefore making them less alike than identical twins. This is all fact.

Darky! can't draw a straight line
Dogs are better than cats. I hate cats but love kittens.
