A few days ago, Toshiba announced their new processor based on Intel's XScale architecture:
IRVINE, Calif., Feb. 12, 2002 — Empowering the mobile customer with a powerful and lightweight productivity device with integrated wireless connectivity, the Computer Systems Group (CSG) of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. (TAIS) today announced its plans to introduce a robust, Pocket PC PDA powered by the Intel® PXA250 Applications Processor. The new handheld device will be available in Q'2, 2002.
Featuring the new processor based on the Intel® XScale™ microarchitecture at 400MHz, Toshiba's next- generation PDA will deliver improved performance and significant power savings to handle the most demanding productivity and multimedia applications. With integrated wireless functionality and dual expansion slots, customers will experience seamless communication and increased mobility, without adding weight or increasing the size of the handheld device.
Toshiba's current high-end model, the e570, has 64MB od RAM, so i'm assuming this model will have close to 128MB. The dual expansion slots and wireless connector are also very nice. Check out the press release here.
ZDNet also has some news on improving small screen resolutions and clarity:
The image quality of the Microvision prototype is exceptional, said Russell Hannigan, Microvision's director of business development for advanced products. "We achieve full Super VGA (SVGA or 800 x 600 lines) resolution and have measured contrast ratios up to 150:1. Color gamut and saturation are already comparable with a very high quality CRT and we expect to see further improvements in performance over the weeks ahead."
