Economy going down the drain << Scared<<<

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: iTaL

Im 20 years old

I lost my father at age 38 2 years ago when I was only 18 years old

In 1997 I went and recieved my a+ from towson state university branch off bootstrap program

My father Died And I had to go back home for support for my mom

The economy is going to shit theres no tech jobs techs are getting laid off now because ceos want 20 million a year instead of 19 million

Im 20 scared can't find a tech job and just losing hope on life and any future in the computer industry

Someone help

My situation is not any different from yours. The only advantage you have is that you're young and have a lot to look forward to. You can get a job at any other establishments, not necessarily tech-related.

It's gonne be harder for me (being almost 29) to settle for a non-tech related job, especially with all the bills and car payments

But things will look up. They always do.

Even tho I dont know you you are in my prayers man I hope everything turns out good for you .

See thats not fair tho I busted my ass at blockbuster to pay that money to get that a+ and now its worth nothing

Can't you go back to work for blockbuster or some other local store until you can find a job that utilizes that A+?

Posted by: tkron

Although Jobs may be tough right now, be aware that a higher degree will mean that you will most likely earn at least twice as much as a High School graduate over you life time.

Dude, don't say that shit on the forums. Get counselling if you need it, but don't drop bombs like that on the forum.

That's a warning.

You are going at this whole thing with the wrong mentality. Assume you'll never find something and it will come true.

My fault

Just looking for options

I cant afford counselling otherwise I would have been done it

My fault again I just miss my pops man

That's perfectly fine. But the forums are not a place for anyone's personal problems. We used to have a header proclaiming that, not sure where it went.

Edit: You want ideas for finding a job, that's perfectly fine. Advice is what the forums are here for. But things that are personal should stay personal. Save them for friends, family, and counselors.

Doesn't this belong in Rants/Raves ?

This I don't agree with. No one should get a warning just for venting. If that were so, you'd have had a lot of warnings already, Nova...

Although we do not really offer "support" for personal problems, we do not go out of our way to shun them off, either. Let's be a little more understanding here.

Check this thread for what would have been a more apt response:

This one, on the other hand, I agree with...

If you give up now, then you will just let your family down. As I said, you're young and there are a lot of opportunities ahead of you. Go with the flow, take the punches - you're just going through a phase

And as you can see, we don't like to see anyone wanting to "end it" so try to refrain from thinking that way. If you really need someone to talk to, talk to your mother. Mothers almost always have the best advice...

Posted by: Chako

There is always hope. Talk of ending it is the cowards way out. Do not contemplate it. You miss your father, and that is understandable. You still have your mother. I am sure she needs you. Your young and have a full life in front of you.

Hardship molds a person to become stronger so that he can face adversity the second and third time around.

Ital..what is your education level? You have a degree? If not..go get one. I know right now that there seems to be a teacher shortage everywhere. Can't think of anything more rewarding. Maybe you can teach computers or a business related fields? This way you will be doing something you love. May take you a while to achieve it, but I can tell you that some things are worth the blood, sweat, and toil to achieve. Likewise with the tech industry. If you hang in there long enough, I am sure you will find something to your liking.

Getting a better degree is always a help. Get some student loans. They suck, but they are a necessary evil nowadays.

A+ isn't enough. And plain jain computer tech isn't much of a job anymore. There are just too many of them.

Do what chako says, take a course for a field with lots of jobs. It may not be exactly what you want, but it will help you get back on your feet quicker.

Hell you're only 20 years old. You can do anything you just about want to put your mind to. If money is a problem, i'm sure you qualify for a pellgrant and some educational loans.

A lot of factories hire summer college help as well because it's tax deductible. So you can work a nice paying job in the summer while you get an education the rest of the year.

Glad you decided to stick around, iTal.. we've got a pretty decent community going on here.

If you're not against government jobs, I can give you a website or two that would help you find one iin your area... they are solid employment even in difficult economic times, and they have great benefits and job security...

Errr, that makes two of us

Ital look at it this way, the economy is looking up. I feel we are pretty much out of whatever recession we are in, so just keep looking/hoping.

But this does bring up a good point. When i get out of here(my college) in 4 years, will I be able to find a "tech" job. It seems everybody is going and doing something computer related now b/c they have heard that: 1. Being a computer expert automatically means that you make 90,000 a year and 2. that there are just an abundant supply of jobs and employers can't find enough people to fill these jobs.

Oh well i have got a long way to go, so there is no worry right?

I don't know about this economy... it seems to suck in my opinion to.. I am almost 25.. shortly after my birthday I get my AA in Internet Info Systems.. really afraid that it won't be much in the job market.. seems you need to have alot of experiance for just about any job out there. I currently deliver pizza for Pizza Hut.. not a bad job.. but what I call a no brainer.. in my spare time I do websites for ppl and get a little income there.. or trade for services.. I have a deal with a chiropracter so I don't pay for that.. and I need it...

Might look into online school's.. I know there are more and more of them.. seem to be a good option when there is time or location restraints..

also do a search for Compasionet Friends online.. good source for bereaved parents and family..
