Snipped from The Work Circuit:
In a few weeks, 14-year-old Derek Jacobs of Boca Raton, Fla., will have a computer chip implanted in his left arm.
A doctor will inject it through a syringe, into an anesthetized area, probably near his shoulder. There, the radio frequency chip will act as a sort of "human bar code," identifying Derek through his skin to anyone nearby equipped with an appropriate electronic reading device.
Derek is taking this step because of a passion for technology and hopes that his family will follow soon after, allowing the monitoring of his father who is sick with Hodgkins Disease and lymphoma. Read more here.

The best part of the article explained that Derek got his MCSE Certification when he was 12 years old...
Microsoft refused to comment.

holy shet.
This kid is a genius.

lol Skyn.
There's no way this will catch on. There's too many privacy and Religious groups that would oppose it.
There was even a Christian movie about Revelation. In the movie, the mark of the beast was a barcode for just such a use on everyone..hehe The Christians were exiled because they refused to recieve the barcode.

I wont ever get one... maybe i'd carry around something that had my Medical info, no way in hell I'd give anyone with the right tools to scan me, and find out some of my most private information.
That kid is a genius...or maybe MCSE certification isnt hard Very ambitious kid, I wish I was on his track, but from what I gather from co-workers twice my age, Im already on a great track.

He thinks he's a genius but in a few years he is going to want that out very very badly.

Talking about these chips has sparked my memory about something. I despise these chips. Mainly because...
When I was younger, I had a Chiuaua named Conchita. We got that chip that can identify a dog incase of emergency. The chip contains information like the dogs name, any problems the dog has, the owners name address and phone number and a few other things.
Anyways, somehow the dog had gotten out of the yard and ran down to a busy highway. She got hit by a car but was still alive. The woman that hit her took her immdiately to a local pet hospital.
This is the part that makes me angry: they refused to scan the dog for the chip! They wanted the money to scan the dog UP FRONT in case the dog doesnt have a chip. WTF IS THE POINT OF THE CHIP THEN?? So to make a long story short, the Dog died because of some greedy and stupid veternarians.
We would have spent any amount of money to save the dog. The woman that brought the dog in was going to pay for the scan but didnt have enough money for it.
What would have happened if this was a human being? Would they have let them just die? Would they be more concerned about their utility bills rather than saving a life?

Hey SKHN i heard about that story on the news just a couple days ago! Hehe, anyway that is a whole different type of computerchip which is only used for finding the location of your pet incase he wanders off etc..
Posted by: SKYHN
The chip is for contact information of the owner in case your pet is lost or injured and winds up at a pet hospital.
The pet hospital killed my dog, not the person that hit the dog. They blatantly refused to scan for the chip because of money. The woman told us that the vet said the dog could be saved but was more worried about money than saving the dog.
What was the point of having the chip implanted, paying for it and then when it is needed in an emergency, it is not scanned? BULL$HIT!

since it costs them nothing out of pocket to do the scan, its rather odd they did not do so. but lets face it, in the long run, not doing so cost them money. they lost the emergency services they could have charged you, and im sure you told everyone you know not to do business with them.
unfortunately, if this happened years ago, its too late for any formal complaint against the vet. which is too bad, since they are liscenced by the state, and you could have made his/her life miserable, at least for a few minutes.

I think it happened when I was 11 or 12 so about 6 or 7 years ago.
