Apolo Anton Ohno won the gold in the men's short tract 1500 meter speed skating event yesterday after Korean Kim Dong-sung was disqualified. After the race, thousands of emails flooded the US Olympic servers.
Reuters has the story:
The United States Olympic Committee internet server crashed five hours after the final when it was overloaded by 16,000 e-mails from South Korea. Ohno was awarded the gold medal when Kim, who had crossed the line first, was disqualified for obstructing the American.
Ohno told a news conference Thursday he had a good support staff who blocked out hate mail and e-mails.
"When you reach that high status in any sport, people are going to hate what you are doing," he said. "I'm not going to worry about it any more,"

Some psychic woman predicted that Aliens will visit the Olympic Site today too.
This years olympics is full of controversy!

Too bad the Olympics had to have this controversial issue with the dishonest judge that corrupted the pair’s figure skating. These athletes train hard all they're lives to hopefully someday get there. So finally your there what a great achievement, then it all goes to shit because you win by default. Oh sure your the winner but are you really the best? Two gold medals hmmm.. That would not taste good for me; the Russians should have relinquished the gold to the Canadians who obviously were the best that night. That is what we call integrity, if that were me (Russian skaters) I would have rather had the silver that I earned, to stand there with the Canadians and claim the gold was a disgrace to the sport. They were no better than that judge in my eyes. They knew deep in their hearts they did not win that gold medal. I don't know how they can feel good about that; it would not sit well in my stomach.
By the way, I like the new avatar T.R. and Sky yours scare me!

Thanks. It's supposed to be a variation of the universal symbol for power.

Yeah I thought that was a bad decision. I have no clue why the Korean got disqualified. I though he beat Apolo Ohno fairly to the finish line. Anyway, it just goes to prove that even if you do leave wearing gold around your neck still doesn't always mean that you're the best.

well, the official ruling was that he blocked ohno, i believe. not all rules or transgressions are obvious to a normal spectator.

True but Ohno was supposed to win three gold medals at the Winter Games this year and the only one that he did win was controversial. Next time people should think twice before setting high goals like that, and no one should have bragged so much about him before he raced.

no, they shouldnt. he did get 3 medals however, which is quite a feat.

He did get three medals but he was aiming to be the best. He acheived a great feit but nevertheless, he now knows, and his fans now know, that he is not the best speedskater in the world any longer. That must be cause for a little disappointment considering expectations were very high.

define "best". he got more medals than anyone else in short track, yes? and one of them was gold.
anyway, i never heard him making any such claims. every athlete aims to win, but especially in that sport, knows that anything can happen. anyway, those medals are so damn ugly this time. look like they were made with silly putty.
