FTC Charges Cell Phone Shield Makers With Fraud

CommsDesign (a division of EETimes) has a story up on the Federal Trade Commision accusing 2 cell phone radiation shields producers of fraud:

WASHINGTON — The Federal Trade Commission took strong action Thursday (Feb. 21) against two companies (Stock Value 1 Inc. & Comstar Communications Inc.) that sell items described as protecting consumers against radiation from cell phones. The FTC said the companies cannot substantiate their product claims and moved to prevent them from selling those products.

The FTC claims that the companies are misadvertising their products by saying the shields block 99% of radiation, where the shields only block radiation from the ear piece and not the attenna, which is a major source of radiation. Read on here.
