Blizzard's official stance on the 'bnetd' controversy

Blizzard Entertainment has released it's official statement regarding the emulated server controversy (courtesy of bnetd.org - you can see the news about it here). Although they didn't name names, it was fairly obvious what they were talking about.

This was posted in the Blizzard front page, headlined "Blizzard Takes Action to Protect Its Intellectual Property":

Certain programs have been developed that allow users to bypass Battle.net's CD-key-authentication process. Although these programs might have been made with good intentions, they directly promote software piracy by allowing users who have illegitimately obtained our games to play them as if they'd been legitimately purchased. Furthermore, because these programs allow access without a CD key, they render malicious users unaccountable, thereby eliminating Blizzard's ability to protect legitimate consumers. Therefore, Blizzard has taken an aggressive stance opposing the use of these programs.

Please take a moment to read through our FAQ regarding these issues if you have any questions or concerns about Blizzard's stance on software piracy.

Frankly speaking, the folks at bnetd should've seen this coming.

I logged onto Kali for the first time in over a year. I noticed that there is hardly anyone playing any games on Kali either. Also noted the message on kali.net

"Please excuse the mess. Both the development and business offices of Kali have been closed. No sales or support is available at this time. I am doing what I can to keep the service up in my spare time, but alas I have no control or authority beyond just keeping the servers running. If anything new develops I'll let you know. "

Im glad Blizzard did this, Just think of all the pirates out there that could be playing games for free on the internet at blizzards expense! The people that actually Bought the game legally are the only ones that should get to acess the bnet servers.

Yeah, and people who weren't selected for a closed beta playing anyway.
