Machines in the works could help commuters rise above traffic woes.
Commuting takes a huge chunk out of some workers' days. Data from more than 95,000 individual respondents to the 1995 Nationwide Personal Transportation Study found that the average commuter gets to work in about 19 minutes.
But it takes a lot longer in congested, big cities. In New York City, for example, the 2000 US Census found the average commute lasts more than 31 minutes. Overall, urban transit commuters have an average commute of 40 minutes, while it takes suburban transit commuters 60 minutes, according to the Census survey. Another survey from the Texas Transportation Institute found that some drivers wasted as much as 82 hours in traffic in 1997. And the situation is only getting worse. One proposed solution is to get above the traffic.
Buying your own helicopter might be one approach, but it's expensive and risky. There's also the matter of finding a suitable landing pad.
But you might want to consider a personal flying machine. The SoloTrek XFV (XFV stands for exo-skeletor flying vehicle) is a project of Millennium Jet of Sunnyvale, California, and is partially funded by the Pentagon's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
Hmmm... I can't wait to see this come to life! This would be interesting, as if we did not have enough problems with traffic on the ground. Yea, I can see it now, intoxicated people flying they're machines into buildings and houses. Not to mention falling out of the sky right on your head and the pilot crapping his pants as you approach his airliner! Na, give me mass transit over this stupid idea.

If flying cars ever become a reality, they had better be strict on who they give licenses too. Its just way to easy to get a Drivers License. With the way some people drive, I cant even understand how they get their license's.

I would rather use a jet pack. Remember Thunderball ? They have been around for 40 years. You would think they would be workable by now.
