Anyone use this service? Or know about it? Good, bad?
One of my family members used it and he recommended it over Christmas. You basically pay a monthly fee of like $20 and you can rent unlimited DVDs online and they ship via snail mail. You only get one DVD at a time, but as soon as you ship it back, you get your next one. Sounds like a good idea, but there is usually a catch...

I am using it currently, and it seems pretty good ... it really depends on how much you spend on rentals in your area in comparison ... for $20 a month, you usually get to rent about 3-5 DVDs a week, depending on how fast you watch em ... sending them back is hassle-free coz they have their own self-stamped, return envelope, and all you need to do is put the DVD back in the envelope and mail it....
You actually get 3 DVDs out at a time with the basic $20 fee. When the DVDs come back, they will automatically ship you the other DVDs in queu ... subscribers can upgrade to 5 DVDs or 8 DVDs out at a time for an added fee, but I don't think it'll be as economical
I like Netflix so far ... I've already rented about 22 DVDs since I first started using them...

I am considering joining netflix. I rent a lot of DVD's, probably about $50+ worth a month.
Are the DVD's you get quality or are they scratched somewhat? Thats my only gripe with rentals, people dont know how to handle a Disc and end up scratching the hell out of it.
A Video Game rental thing like this online would be a really good idea.

How would it cause more piracy than what happens as a result of video game rentals from Hollywood video, blockbuster or any other rental place?
I doubt that there is that big of a problem with PS2, Xbox and GC piracy. DVD burners are not cheap and the GC doesnt even use a standard disc.

You don't have to have a dvd burner.
You could merely have a dvd drive and copy the contents to your hardrive, then convert it to a .rom file, and use an emulator.
Even cartridge games are pirateable. They have those lovely "backup" systems tht copys the entire game to your hardrive.
And it would cause more piracy, seeing as how every item you rent at blackbuster is what, 5-10$? And you can only keep them for few days.
