Holy crap! This is not good.
The SSSCA, among other things, will make the following illegal:
* Assembling a home-built PC.
* Using a non-secure computer (ie, a computer built before the would-be implementation of the SSSCA) on a network.
* Widespread development of open-sourced (non-copyrighted and “digitally unsigned”) software.
* Use of open-sourced software (essentially the entire software platform for the UNIX and Linux operating systems, on which Computer Science research relies).
* University and corporate research on systems, debugging, security, and watermarking
This is total BS. Hollywood can suck my a$$. I hope it is shot down faster than a clay pigeon at a shooting competition.
This is not getting mainstream coverage. The article is dated 2/28/02 and I havent heard ANYTHING about this til today. Word about this needs to be spread and fast.

I do like how the intel guy at the meetings told the senator he full of it and that this could never work. It was fun how the senator became all mad screamed at him prettty much shut up.

i dont see how u guys are getting so worked up this is almost 2 years old and as of now is probably a dead issue. and even if it wasnt the basics of it eliminate the every man for himself when it comes to digital security forcing all of em to adopt one standard. if a bill doesnt make it to the floor of the house within 6 months of it being drafted it is normally a dead non-issue item. i agree that is not a do-able system heh. but i think u guys are getting worked up over nothing. democrat senator hollings was also the one that thinks condit is as innocent as the wind driven snow he has no political future heh. the senate can introduce bills all day and all nite but unless someone in the house of representatives takes up the torch the bill is DOA. even with the piracy thing and the losses that the various recording and software inudustries suffer annually they still make more money than they know what to do with. i doubt anything like this will ever see a vote in the house of representatives much less make it to the senate and then to the presidents desk.
this is just another means of a website to get worked up over nothing to genereate hits. kinda like the tax the internet bill that folks got worked up over long after it became a dead non-issue

It will never happen, it violates people's rights to buy what they want with their money; "pursuit of happiness."

Well I think its too far fetched to be passed too, but if its dead, then why are guys from Intel and Steve Balmer from MS debating it in the senate?
