I been playing AvsP 2 over the Internet lately and notice a lot of people are just plain mouthy and unpleasant in online FPS's. Is it because they are bitter people who hate losing or are they just getting into somekind of Uber Geek trash talking?
It's not just that particuliar game. Other FPS's games I play usually get people like that.
I remember running into people like that in AC too but not as bad. How do you behave in online games?

About the only game I play right now that I trash talk is RTCW. Some people just cant get a clue sometimes, such as that after the third click while holding a grenade, it will explode. Some people cant seem to figure that out and they stand right next to you and BOOM! Kill you, themselves and anyone near you.
Other times people just act stupid such as bragging about getting a kill on you. Of course 1 min later when you are pumping them full of lead for the 3rd time is always sweet revenge.
I have no reason for trash talking on DAOC, accept maybe to the idiot that ruined the guild I was in, which I left.
I guess I will vote for "I trashtalk people in the game for playing bad."

The thing is, on DAOC nobody is an a$$hole. Its 100% co-op accept when fighting RvR and you dont even have time to talk to the people you are fighting because if you blink, you die.
I did get into kind of a scuffle now that I think about it. A group said I was being a "Loot Hog" because a good cloak dropped and I wouldnt give it to one of them.

I don't think this actually qualifies as trashtalk, but I find it humourous enough to share. It was a 1v1 game I had played a while ago, and although my starting base had been razed in a rush, I was able to retreat to a "safe haven" to rebuild quickly (I had a bunch of gold to do so) and launch counterattacks. I'll let the dialogue speak for itself (taken from the chat history in-game).

While we were talking, I had dropped units off on the mainland and sent them to raze his town. I had only destroyed just a few buildings before he actually left.

when i played HL team death match, usually me solo against teams, folks liked to trash talk me a lot i just smiled and pointed at the leader board with my name at the top and said come get me  the score speaks for itself. i find that trash talkers spend so much time talking they arent playing and in FPS that usually means im killing em. i love it when someone stops faces a wall and starts taking garbage i then wack em and they complain "HEY I WAS TYPING U FKING NOOB" my reply is usually why dont u just type as a ghost then heh. most trash talkers do so cuz they suck at playing. ignoring em is the best method

You can still talk smack and not stoop down to warez d00dz-level dialogue. Use "big" words, proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling. It's not that hard to stomp their tiny intellects and shut them up with a few witty remarks.
If you're talking about wankers that get really nasty and use all sorts of vulgar language, I'm usually much too busy kicking their asses to be paying attention to anything they're saying. Although ignoring them really is the best way to deal with them.

Trash talking really doesn't bother me.
What I really hate/despise is team killers. I quit play tribes because it was getting so bad. Your team would be ahead so a member of the other team would drop and join yours then proceed to kill everyone over and over to bump his team back up.
Currently in Wolfenstein I've noticed a lot of so called teammates that shoot you till your almost dead then run off. First shot you take you die. Lame...

I always get accused of cheating in CS, every game at least 5 people will yell at me. I'll just tell them "nope, don't cheat, you just suck" then proceed to kill them 50 more times.
I flame the lamers who b!tch because they suck, not the people who suck and accept their fate knowing one day they'll be better.

Yeah, I find the part where he goes "gg?" [sic the question mark] hilarious, like he's expecting me to leave because he's "won."
As far as I'm concerned the game isn't over until my last building is destroyed. Players that don't bail at the first sign of trouble and actually stick it out to the last man are few and far between.

I play for the challenge when I play online but I do talk a fair bit. I'm not usually rude to a lot of people unless they are rude to me.

I play for the challenge...well...the relaxation anyhow. I rarely talk, usually too focused on the game to pay attention to the chatting. I never trash talk, and ignore those who do.

Not many people trash talk to me that I have played against so the situation usually doesn't apply anyway. There's a few that are bad tempered here and there but they usually don't take their fury out on you if you beat them fairly.

Lot of people just got pissed off at me for resurrecting an old thread about the Olympics and Nova Z ended up closing it. No one has replied to this one in a while and now you have so if anyone tells me off I'm holding you guilty
