Here's how to turn your Creative Live card into an Audigy card.

This is just RUMOR right now to me, I have not found a link (source) to this yet. So until I find a reliable source to this tweak, treat it as such.

1) Go to device manager.
2) Go to audio device/gameport.
3) Remove SBLive! WDM Basic Device.
4) Remove Gameport for SBLive!.
5) Backup wdma10k1.inf to wdma10k1.inf.old.
6) Backup wdma10k1.pnf to wdma10k1.pnf.old.
7) Install official Audigy driver, and select "no" when prompted for "uninstalling driver".
8) Restart.
9) System reports that "New audio hardware is found", select "Do not install driver automatically"! System reports "New gameport device found", select "Do not install driver automatically"!
10) Run the Audigy beta driver:
UDA_betaUDA_betaAudioEnglishdriversCTZAPXX.exe, select "Install WDM driver".
11) Restart, everything okay except the sound font manager.
12) Copy the sfman32.dll from the "common" directoy of the Audigy driver disc, boot to DOS or other version of windows (or safe mode?), then copy the sfman32.dll to "System32" directory of Windows.
13) Restart, everything okay, all functionality!

This is supposedly works, I have not tried it though. My brother-in-law e-mailed this to me.

Are you saying that the Audigy is the same chip set as the Live card? Or does this only give you the Audigy drivers for the heck of it?

If the Audigy is the same as a live card...I will be seriously pisses as are all the others who bought it to replace their live card!

Try it out and see if it works...I am very interested.

From what I have been told, it has been found that full Sound Blaster Audigy functionality can be had from a regular old Sound Blaster Live with only a few edits to a driver file or two. It seems that the only real difference between the Audigy and the Live are the different manufacturing process used to make the processor, the model numbers on the processor, the larger DAC included with the Audigy, and the Audigy's firewire (IEEE 1394) port.

Creative's recent financial problems, and being criticized for having a slow R & D department, led Creative to produce a new card by other means. They took the SB Live design and renamed it Audigy. Had they not had the financial problems I bet we would even have seen a SB live with the larger DAC and the firewire port.

I have no link to this information, just hear say.

Ok..so it is just rumors at this time.

I shall keep my ears open. If this is true...might give SB a real black eye.

Yea, not sure if I should have posted this without a link. From what I'm finding out it's a lot of he said, she said thing. This could be just a rumor floating around, I'll keep checking to see.

Well thanks to Sky a link to this Rumor is located here

Thanks Sky for the link!

Im rethinking what soundcard would be best now. I can save $40+ if I get a SB Live! 5.1 card instead of an Xgamer Audigy. I doubt I would ever use the 1394 port on the Audigy card.

-Sit's back happily with on-board C-Media sound chip.-

I been reading more about the Audigy and from what I see the Audigy does not use as much CPU Processing as the Live series cards. I think I will still go with an Audigy, lower CPU usage is always a plus in my book.
