And yes, I've used macs throughout my entire highschool education, so I've had plenty of experience with them.

4) They cost more.
5) You can't custom build them like you can with PCs

1) Software compatibility has always been a bit of an issue, but there're ways around it. Conversely, you can't run Mac software on a PC, but there are ways around this as well.

2) I find the Windows interface horrid and I used to categorize it with the reasons I don't like windows, but It really isn't that different from MacOS; one thing I still cannot get used to, is the mouse. I don't mean the two buttons (I have a two button mouse for my mac), I mean the acceleration and the speed. I've done everything I can think of with my PC and can't get it comfortable, and it's so subtle that I don't know what it is.

3) iMac was for 'entry level' computer users (morons, cheap schools, etc.), and for people with not too much money [me].

4) "You get what you pay for." 'If they're willing to pay for it, I'm willing to charge for it.'

5) Custom building a computer has its inherent risks. Shocking yourself ("But that's part of the fun!"), damaging expensive parts (Anyone ever drop a HDD?), and [insert third, dangerous, attention-getting risk here].

---=====---

On a slightly different train of thought (here's where it may begin to be worth reading) I'm going to be getting a new comptuer pretty soon (in geological relativity), and I don't know what to do.

I could buy another Mac (wishfully the one I posted at Air on the original thread)
-or-
I could custom build a PC.

I'm still leaning toward Mac.

MOST of my software is hybred (will work on PC and Mac), but not all of it. SC is (All Blizzard products are), and that's one of the few that actually matter; but with the new MacOSX not running all the software, and needing to step down to OS9.2 to run it (I think it's emulated or something, dunno), so I don't know if it wouldn't be better to get Windows anyway.

I don't really like any recend Windows OS, Win98 is okay. My college apparently uses some kind of Win98 emulation within a(n) NT system. Seems to work good outside the fact that the hardware needs to be replaced.
Any recommendation for WinOS?

If I do go with PC, I'm going to try to custom build one. I haven't looked into it for a while, but when I did there were too many new, uh, technologies (DDR-RAM, and some other stuff, I think) which I didn't know anything about.

It's still going to be a few months though, and I also need to get some money to go on a trip or two (to NC & LA,CA [both in May]).

Those of you who are paying attention to the tech out there, I'd really appreciate some advice on what to get (PC-wise, not Mac), and from this I'll decide on what computer to get when I have the financial situation sorted out.

If I have money left over from when I build my new PC, I plan on buying an iMac. They are nice for internet and Music. I want an iPod too, so thats part of the reason I would get an iMac.

If I do buy one, I may give it to my my Girlfriend as a christmas present, we will end up both using it anyways. She hogs my laptop all the time anyways

You just want an iPod so you can pirate five-hundred dollar software!
