Built Comp runs slow...

Ok I have posted before about this but I have the exact error message now. What happened is that I built a Athlon 1.4 gig comp with an Asus A7M266 Motherboard and it runs so slow. I tried to install Windows 98 SE on it and during the installation I noticed it was running extremely slow. I didn't think much of it but after it installed, the error "Invalid VxD dynamic link call to device number 3 service B" came up and wouldn't let me get into windows. So, I looked on the internet about that error and found disabling level 1 cache may fix it. I disabled the Lev 1 cache and now this time it made into windows 98 but it ran extremely slow. I'm thinking its a memory problem since the cache is related to memory. Maybe bad ram modules. I have 2 256 megs of DDR ram in their. I tried to run with one stick in and the same thing happened. I have no clue whats going on.

If it's your Level 1 cache, your Athlon is defective. This is not so likely. It's running slow because you disabled the cache.

Looks like you have defective RAM. Read Microsoft's KB Article Q192397.

Or your system.ini file is blank.

A couple of suggestions:

You re-enable your Level 1 cache and remove one of the RAM sticks. If it still has the problem, exchange the RAM sticks. One of them may be bad.

You re-enable your Level 1 cache and reformat and reinstall your operating system.
