CBS 9/11 Documentary
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Did anyone watch the documentary about September 11 tonight? It was on CBS and started at 8:00 EST. It was a 2hour documentary about September 11. It had video tape from inside the buildings and you saw how devastating it was.
I found it very interesting and informative. It gave you a real view of what happened and how bad it really was.

EDIT: And sometimes sci-fi

Uhhhhh...
I'm pretty sure everyone is clear on what happened and how bad it really was, especially seeing it live on TV.

I refuse to watch any more of this kind of tear-jerking, sentimental, shock-drama crap that attempts to turn this real human tragedy into more network ratings points.
Buildings burned and fell. People died horrible deaths. We mourned, we blamed, we waved our flag, we blew shit up. We've seen it all, live on TV as it happened. Now they take all that footage, condense it, repackage it, and add a few new shots of death and destruction (and probably a sappy soundtrack to boot), and get a few more advertising dollars from sponsors. I'm not sure which makes me more disgusted.
The events of 9-11 were the only things on TV for weeks, and then dominated airwaves and the internet for months. I've seen it. I watched it happen. I've been properly horrified, outraged, frightened, saddened, etc. Watching it all over again is pointless, no matter how many new and different ways the network plans to show me carnage.

I wouldn't call it obsession, more like caring about our fellow Americans and giving a damn about the war on Terrorism.

Where is ur compassion? Hmm...when u die in a burning building ill remember what most of u just said.
Posted by: redwench
no, its an obsession. i can care about my fellow americans without watching endless footage of buildings coming down. theres nothing constructive about that movie. its just to play with our emotions and get ratings. it is therefore an obsession.
Posted by: Gerbilo
I watched it....
Laggy, maybe time to move/close this?

Compassion? Compassion only lasts so long bud. Then it DOES become obsession.
And with that attitude, I can tell you most likely have none, and thus, no one would have any for you.
Posted by: Chako
<-----Makes it a point not to watch horror scenes on TV a second time. Frankly, i don't enjoy watching people die and suffer. To me, that is more compassionate then being glued to the TV with a ghoulish voyeuristic attitude.

As for closing it, let's just see how the topic goes ...
Posted by: Muggs

that would be alot more entertaining then shit we have seen for the past however many month. Oh wait im sick and tired of seeing the war too
whatever happened to world leaders sleeping around? now thats entertainment

I think Shal summed up my sentiments exactly.
Posted by: Gerbilo
ahh hush laggy hehehe
Posted by: Kdr Kane
I'll go with Shalome on this one.
I wasn't interested in helping CBS with their ratings.

I was listening to a late-night radio talk show last night that was discussing that documentary (I didn't see it) and heard the host say, "I'm teaching my daughter how to hate."
First thought that entered my mind when I heard him say that was, "How are you any better than 'those terrorists' if you're teaching your child to hate just like they supposedly do?"
The sad thing about that is his daughter is only three years old.
That documentary was nothing more than propoganda for the "war on terror". Just as people start getting back to a semblance of normalcy, corporate media sprinkles some salt onto the wound to reignite feelings of hatred towards "the terrorists". Corporate media is crap.
Personally, I think it's all a big conspiracy and the American people have been lied to outright or been told half-truths about a great many things (again).
/me waits for the spooks to show up.

I don't understand what you mean by that.
Posted by: Tecil
Everything in the X-Files TV show has to do with Government Conspiracies. The current plot line of the show is that Scully's baby is a goverment super soldier experiment.
Posted by: Daedleus
LOL
Ok, I see now. I don't watch TV, which is why I didn't understand what you meant. Sorry. ;p
Posted by: rockjock
TV went off. Stereo went on. I would have posted earlier but was out of town for the last couple.
Posted by: Gerbilo
BTW, nice to see you Daed

I saw one part of the show. The part when the bodies were hitting the ground (the people jumping). Man, it was loud.
I thought that part was damn interesting.
we need to move on. this show didnt help that.

Cultural insensitivity! Cultural insensitivity!
I've grown up with Islamic and Sikh friends who wear turbans. Cut out the "diaper head" comments. It shows your ignorance.
Posted by: Erekose
i dont know if any one else saw this, maybe it was just on my local news (unfortunately i missed it but a friend who saw it told me about it) it was maybe a few days after 9/11 and the news was doing a big story on how everyone was buying american flags for there cars, houses, etc. well anyway they were going fast and people were lining up to buy them as soon as they came into the stores. well as the cameraman is panning the line he spots a man of middle eastern descent wearing a turban, bearded, etc. he pays for his flag, looks right into the camera and says 'i'm an american too'. i'd rather remember something like that

I was refering to the terrorists that steered a plane into two big buildings killing many innocent civilians. I am sorry if I offended any ones race or ethnicity but i was refering to the terrorists

Calm down pal no need to bash my self esteem. No need to belittle me. I was referring to the terrorists because I am not very fond of them. I have a hindu friend too and his name is purvik. Again, I am sorry I was wrong to make that comment refering to the Al Queda network but i made fun of the Islamic faith around the world by mistake. Im sorry. It wont happen again. Im not going to write any more about this now.
Posted by: Nfested
I am sorry if I made you feel belittled in any way but you need to understand that if you feel the need to make fun of someone (in this case Osama Bin Laden) you should only make fun of him for what he/she has done and not his ethniticity. It is now clear that you were only intending to insult a specific group of people and not a whole culture, just don't do it next time even if you don't mean it.
Why is everyone getting all sensitive about this? Diaper head Diaper Head, there I said it. Does that mean I am a racist? Fenix probably didn't mean anything by the remark (except to insult Al Quaeda) and given the fact that he has a hindu friend he probably did not want to offend a whole culture.

Wow, i was surprised to see this thread still going. I along with AK saw this show in school. It was interesting to say the least. Smoe of the footage they showed was just incredible. Namely the part when the cameraman was inside tower 1 as tower 2 was collapsing next to them. I mean, the odds of shooting a documentary about firefighters in NYC and then being caught up in the situation, and afterwards finding out that not one person from the firehouse was lost, its just mind boggling.
Posted by: PhantomGamer
I watched it
IT was sad becuase you were watching from in side the trade center
Posted by: Nfested
I didn't watch it but I would have if I wasn't so busy. I have heard a lot of people talk about it and it sounds very interesting (and sad).
Where did they get all this footage anyway?

The point was that he made a racist remark. On top of that, he was using racist slang for the completely wrong group of people.
It's wrong either way. It doesn't matter if someone 'means it' or not. Just uttering a racist phrase is bad enough.
And on that note, don't go spouting it yourself, or you'll get a warning as well. I have ZERO tolerance for ANY kind of racism. Don't push me.
Posted by: Nfested
When did I say a racist remark? I was just saying it in the literal sense of people wearing diapers on their heads and not in the racist sense about people who wear turbans being called diaper heads to prove my point that Fenix may not have meant what he said. You are taking what I said way out of context.

That is strange.. site some examples of racism in the jokes thread of this very site and you dident say anything when they wrote it. Did the cat get your tongue? Or are you just picking out me to make an example for everyone? Seems strange either you dident scan the site enough for racism or you just dont like me.. Which one is it im curious..
Posted by: Null Actor
I don't read the whole site. I have a job that requires most of my attention.
Oh, and just because you don't think it was racist, doesn't mean it wasn't.
Posted by: Digitalphatman
So its racist because you say so?
Posted by: Null Actor
It was racist because it was read as a racist comment.
Since I don't feel like fighting with this shit anymore,

No, it is racist because it is an offensive remark targeting a specific racial/ethnic group.
We are pretty tolerant people around here.. but we certainly don't tolerate racist statements being posted on these boards. You are not being singled out.. in fact, one of our long-time members was recently banned for a month when he posted a racist comment in a forum.
If you are offended that we think it's ignorant, inappropriate, and unacceptable to make racist remarks in the forums, so be it. Just don't expect the moderators or staff to be nice about it if these comments continue.
