Viruses: Comming to a cell phone near you?

Next target for viruses: cell phones

As more and more cellular telephones are connected to the internet, so does the risk of catching a cell phone virus.

"If a malicious piece of code gets control of your phone, it can do everything you can do," said Ari Hypponen, chief technical officer of Helsinki-based F-Secure Corp., a computer security firm. "It can call toll numbers. It can get your messages and send them elsewhere. It can record your passwords."

Looks like this will give anti-virus software manufactures some additional work to do.

I was checking out some cell phone internet and some of them can get up to 750kbps. Thats pretty fast and its portable. Im going to try and convince my boss to get a few cell phones with wireless net on them. It would help a lot, especially when we go to shows and people want to place orders. Our website still isnt up yet

Those virus's sound nasty though. Im sure we will see Norton or McAfee on cell phones soon.

um, if your website isnt up yet, then people cant place orders on the net, including you.

anyway, phones that let you surf are pretty silly. no one needs to get on the net that badly.

I know, but what we do right now is when we show off a new product at our offices, and we dont have them in the warehouse yet, we place the order on our network.

Our website might not be up for another 10 months and we have 5 shows comming up in the next 3 months and dozens more after that. What im thinkin of doing is instead of calling the order in or filling out an order form, is using the mobile net to connect to our network and place the order on a laptop. It would be easier for us to do that because the only way for a customer to order right now is to mail in an order form or call an automated order line.

A lot of people want express delievery and putting the order directly on our network and bypassing the written order form or the phone order would save processing time and allow us to get more orders faster.

I dont think we will do it, but you never know. They may like the idea cuz it gets us faster orders

Im hoping we get the website up sooner than 10 months, but its not looking good.
