My Computer is always freezing

Its seems that everytime I use the computer it freezes. I receive lots of illegal operation errors and many registry errors. I run an anti-virus program and a registry cleaner called regvac. But this still doesn't seem to fix the problem. It appears to freeze a lot when I am using Morpheus or Grokster. Sometimes when it freezes my desktop becomes inaccessible. I cann't click on anything except for the toolbar. Does this sound like a hardware or software problem. My computer is only abou a year old.
