Deploying RIS Images on Client PC

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I setup a test server and pro machine, and they are connected only to each other with a crossover cable. I have Active Directory setup, DHCP (I verified that the pro machine is pulling from the DHCP server) and I setup a RIS installation on the server. (Just a basic 2000 install to start with)

I then created a RIS Boot Disk with rbfg.exe. I checked to make sure the network card was on the Adapter List also.

When I try to boot the client pc from the boot disk it can't verify against the DHCP server, so I can't boot to the disk.

I checked my DHCP scope and even recreated it, and still nothing.

Am I missing something?

I used RIS to setup up all of our new PCs here at my work. It was a pain in the ass to configure, but once the config was setup it worked like a champ. Let me see if I can find my documentation on it and I'll post it here.

Seems like there is a config file on the boot floppy you have to input the dhcp server into so that it will know where to look. Its been a few months since I did so I can't quite remember.

Thanks, I appreciate it.
It does seem pretty useful once it works. I'm just trying to learn how to do it, because I'm sure I'll need it one day.

Yeah it came in really handy. I loaded it up on one of my servers here and was able to deploy 150+ PC in just a couple weeks. I'd just drop them where they were supposed to go, and throw the disk in. All I had to do was configure the name when it came up.
