Digicam and Photoshop Blues

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: uh...ok

I've been using my school's Mavica a lot lately and have been taking a lot of pictures. But a lot of the shots that show up really nicely and bright on the Digicam's LCD display does not carry over when placed on the PC.

A batch of pictures today drew my attention finally to this problem, where it looked great on the LCD screen (and even when I looked into the eyepiece), but when I put it onto my computer, a lot of the pictures came out really, really dark.

I know that the LCD screen on the camera brightens images, but this time the difference between the displayed picture and the actual one is HUGE. I tried messing around with the brightness and contrast settings in Photoshop and couldn't get it to look as nicely as it does on the camera. If I get it bright, it's not as sharp. If I get it sharp, it's not as bright.

Does anyone know how to put that "LCD effect" onto a JPEG itself, using Photoshop or any other program?

BTW I also Auto-Leveled and Auto-Contrasted.... didn't help. It definitely made the image sharper but it also made it even darker.

Sorry for not editing my post but quickreply takes less time for my slow 56k...

My cousin just told me that it's just my monitor's problem... photos that look good on LCD can easily sux0r on CRTs...

*sigh*

Heya uh...ok

Have you tried printing an image from the same computer without editing it in photoshop?

That will tell you if it's your monitor, or not.

I use an older version of this. It works wonders for bad photos.
