Anyone familiar with them? Suggestions for a good one?

given thier current lifespan, id suggest a cheap one. but you cant watch movies or game on them very well, so keep that in mind.

They have a nasty habit for blurring images and blurring frames. Definately not for anyhting that needs a crisp picture or fast refresh rates.

AOC have two great LCD's:
LM500 15"
LM700 17"
Both look great and I've had no problems with them.

Must agree with the blurring point, I was playing Q3A on my dad's laptop when he first got it (GF4 440Go) and if I just held down the turn left key the frames would blur together a bit.
On the other hand, I thought movies looked great on it, doesn't compare with a standard 27" TV for sheer size, but talk about sharp.
They are expensive, but for Windows stuff, web browsing, e-mail, and the such, LCD's will blow away most of the CRT monitors out there.
I've got a 19" CRT and the most I can stand to set my display to is 1280x1024, any bigger and the text gets too blurry.
On my dad's laptop, the 15" LCD's native resolution is 1600x1200, and it was easier to read than my 19" at 12x10!
Very impressive.
Correction: it wasn't actually easier to read, but is was obvioiusly sharper, after working with the laptop for about 10-15 minutes, and looking back at my CRT, I was like, "What happened? Everythings blurry all of a sudden!".

Sounds like you just got a crappy CRT there. My 19" runs 1600 just fine, it's only when I go to 1920 or above that it gets nasty.
Yes, the only thing I've noticed LCDs are good for (in my opinion) is watching DivX movies, because that blurring effect helps to seemingly increase the quality. They're also good for long hours of working because they prevent eye strain by using reflective light instead of direct.
[EDIT]9" CRT, what was I thinking...[/EDIT]

I went monitor shopping today (with no intention of buying, so I guess it wasn't really shopping). I noticed that the flat screen CRTs actually outperformed the LCD screens in both sharpness and brightness (two things I'm pretty much looking for right now).
Surprisingly, the $9400 plasma monitor by ViewSonic that was on for display, after I tested it out, looked like shit.

Oh and none of the LCD monitors I saw came even close to matching the luminosity of the LCD display on my Mavica... wait it's not my Mavica... I need to stop calling it "mine".
But this one Sony VAIO laptop I saw at Circuit City looked like it could really do it. What sucked about that was that it didn't have a floppy drive for me to put my floppy in and see how it did with my digipic.

...if LCD's were the only thing left I'd quit gaming and retire to Florida!...the thought sucks more than anything thats ever sucked before!
