2000 server/98 client question

I have a network running 98 on the client systems and a 2000 server system, serving them . These systems are at a school, and I have Fortress Grand security running on them. This disables the user to use the network neighborhood and a few other fun things. You can still go through Network Neighb in open and save dialogs, but its difficult otherwise. Which is what I want. The only question I have is, is there anyway to have it open the user's network folder automatically upon them logging in? I know it would be "Run locally" (which means local to client, this is a server side option though) but I don't know WHAT to do. I tried batch files "explorer \\nt_server\%username%" or net use, etc. but 98 doesnt like the username variable, it ignores it unlike NT or 2000 do. So what can I do? the folder I need will always be \\nt_server\(username here), there's not much getting around that. I may be missing something obvious, but my brain is fried as to what I can do to make this happen, even though it seems simple.
