Hey guys...having trouble here. Tried to log into Asheron's Call one day and it failed to connect to the server. Ok, I decided I'd try something else till the servers were up. Tried Medal of Honor: AA.....timed ou.t Got pissed and tried every other game I have.

Failed to connect. Timed out. sakdjfkjasd62sdf

Something is really wrong...I cant connect to any servers for any game (but i can browse the internet just fine). Also DLed the ie6 program (which contacts microsoft and dtermines what components to DL)....it couldnt find the microsoft server, just like the games couldnt find theirs.

I've tried the Tech Support for my ISP, MSN. No help there (what was I expecting, lol) So anyway I went to the little tracer thingy at
http://www.julianhaight.com/cgi-bin/nph-trace.sh

This is what i got.....

Did you recently install any kind of firewall on your computer (or router or any other piece of hardware)? If so, you may need to configure it differently to allow traffic to your ports (besides the standard web traffic port). If this is your problem, let us know and we can give you a list of standard ports to allow.

If that's not your problem, then...
Is that traceroute FROM you TO somewhere, or FROM somewhere TO you? Just so I have a point of reference, try doing this:

Open up a DOS window. Type this:
tracert www.opentechsupport.net
and then post what it gives you.

Nope, I havent installed any hardware on my computer.

I'm assuming the trace is FROM them TO me. (Don't quote me, heh)

Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195]
(C) Copyright 1985-1999 Microsoft Corp.

C:\>tracert www.opentechsupport.net

Tracing route to opentechsupport.net [209.197.224.80]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 Transmit error: code 65.

Trace complete.

eeeeeeeek!

Maybe its software? Arg!

BTW, I live in Fort Pierce, FL. Thats also the last server/router on the tracer list.....

A firewall on a workstation is often software. What have you installed since the games quit working?

First glance, I would say it's your computer and not the ISP.

Look at the picture below as an example, and make sure you don't have filtering enabled for your IP connection.

What kind of connection to your ISP do you have? Dial-up, cable or DSL?

Posted by: Kdr Kane

It's a firewall problem on your computer if you get the same error code with a ping.

Posted by: Blackomenx

Its Dial-up.

In that picture you sent, under advanced TCP/IP settings (options tab), there were 2 options...Ip security and Filtering.

In mine there is only one option...IP security.

I don't remeber installing anything since the games stopped working, except morpheus.

I used ot have DSL and I used Zonealarm for my firewall, but I don't run it anymore...so I don't think its that.

heres the ping...

C:\>ping www.opentechsupport.net

Pinging opentechsupport.net [209.197.224.80] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 209.197.224.80: bytes=32 time=241ms TTL=237
Reply from 209.197.224.80: bytes=32 time=230ms TTL=237
Reply from 209.197.224.80: bytes=32 time=231ms TTL=237
Reply from 209.197.224.80: bytes=32 time=681ms TTL=237

Ping statistics for 209.197.224.80:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 230ms, Maximum = 681ms, Average = 345ms

C:\>

No problems there.....

Does that mean its the ISP, then? Or is there anything else I can check?

Wait a sec....right after the first time I couldn't sonnect to servers, I DL'ed MSXML3 from microfost (http://download.microsoft.com/download/xml/Install/3.0/WIN98Me/EN-US/msxml3.exe). Could it be that?

Also, I hooked a phone into my comp...previously didnt ave a phone hooked into the modem.

I was getting the same error code 65 while running XP and the following MS KB article will probably help you solve your problem. Turns out it is ZoneAlarm. Really borks up your networking.

http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...b;en-us;Q316414

ZoneAlarm = evil.

Posted by: Kdr Kane

Daedleus is correct.

Here is a thread on another site going through the same problem.

Posted by: Blackomenx

It was Zone alarm. Uninstalled it....cha ching!!

w00t! Thanks guys! Appriciate all your help!
