fps keyboard problem

I am running WinXP on a HP Pavilion laptop, and am running into a minor, but annoying keyboard problem, I was hoping someone might have some input on this. This problem happens with the laptop's keyboard and touchpad (pain in the arse to play like this, but I wanted to rule out possibilities), and with external keyboards and mice. My most common set up is using a PS/2 keyboard connected via a USB-PS/2 adapter, and a USB Logitech wing commander mouse.
When I am moving in a FPS game (so far I have tried Half Life and Serious Sam), I will suddenly stop moving. It happens when I am holding down a key (to run forward), and press and release a second key (to strafe left or right). When I release the second key, but not the first key, I will stop moving. I have to release all keys and then press the forward key again to start moving again. As long as I hold down two keys I can keep moving, but as soon as any key is released, I am toast. Like I said, minor, but definitely annoying and problematic mulching.
Is this an XP thing? I have tried messing around some with sticky keys and filter keys to no avail. Or is it a laptop specific thing?
Thanks for any ideas.

its probably XP/laptop related. i would try not using a usb/ps2 converter as well. try using a PS2 keyboard and usb mouse and disable ur touchpad on the keyboard all together.

The more I mess with it, the more I am inclined to agree with you. Unfortunately, my laptop has no PS2 ports. My next purchase is going to be a docking station, which would include the PS2 ports. Hopefully that will help resolve the issue.
Thanks for the input!

Nope, this model comes with 3 USB, a serial and a parallel, but no ps2 and no firewire. Sucks to be me.
