(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: JANNA

Just picked up Jedi2 at the store while i was out getting computer junk for work. cant wait to load this up and start lightsabreing folks to death

Posted by: Ion Silverbolt

lol, hopefully my pre-ordered copy will come in tomarrow. Also, it's good to see someone else spells it sabre like me instead of saber.

Posted by: Null Actor

SABER!

Lucas Arts says it's saber it's saber dammit!

:P

Posted by: Sarc

Where's the demo?

Posted by: Darky!

Demo?
Buy it the full version now plzkthx.

Posted by: Sarc

Sorry Darky!, I never buy the full game until I know I'm gonna' like it.

Don't get me wrong, it's Star Wars, but you never know.
$50 is still $50.

Posted by: Spider

I'm with Nova on this one, lucas is god, he calls it saber.

Also http://www.dictionary.com/search?q=saber

Posted by: SKYHN

I would like to see a demo of the game too. Or maybe Ill just go "Borrow" a copy...

Posted by: Asmodai

Force Grip is badass.

That's all I have to say.

Posted by: JANNA

its wicked cool!!!! just playing using lame mouse and keyboard is damn fun. gonna spend tomorrow sometime setting up my controllers and then its sabre time!! in the original hardcover star wars written by lucas he spells it s-a-b-r-e

Note their spelling.

'lightsaber'

Posted by: SKYHN

I believe they spell it "saber" because they wanted it to be a new type of weapon not associated with previous weapons from other stories/series. If they spelled it "sabre" then it would be associated with Midevil times since that is when "sabre's" were used.

Somehow I doubt George Lucas wrote that JO write up.

Posted by: Null Actor

Nope, however, he does demand that saber be spelled saber.

I know this, because Lucas Arts told us this when I was working on SW:KOTOR.

Posted by: Ion Silverbolt

I hope they have an updated Kill the Fool multiplayer game. Only make it where we Kill the Fool that looks like Jar Jar.

On the other hand, if whoever plays Jar Jar is good, it would be humiliating..hehe

Posted by: Dabom

"Saber" should be the variant of "sabre."

Posted by: JANNA

i got a original printing of star wars in hardback sitting on my shelf with lucas spelling it sabre heh

Yeah well, me being not french, it's the other way around

Posted by: Tecil

JK II owns. I've been playing it non-stop since Wednesday.

Grip = Badass
Speed = Fast ass whooping machine.

Posted by: Bobaroo

I may have to pick up JK II, everyone is making it sound so good. After I looked at the reviews and screenshots the game looks great.

Posted by: JANNA

only thing is i cant play multi till i get the settings for my rudder pedals setup and get it configured so im not stuck with using just the lame keyboard/mouse setup ://

Posted by: Ion Silverbolt

Ok maybe i'm alone in this assumption, but I think JK2 sucks. When you're shooting at a stormtropper point blank and can't tell if you're hitting anything, something is wrong.

The character animations suck too. I can't even tolorate playing long enough to get through 5 minutes.

Maybe it's just me, but it felt more real in the original JK than this one. Maybe the fact that you can dodge lasers has something to do with it. Everything looks cartoonish.

Posted by: Ion Silverbolt

Well looking around the net, about 85% of people who have it, like it. Almost all of them hated the first 2 levels though. So Tomarrow I'll try to stick it out.

The Stormtroopers just don't look right to me. And what's with the models? I thought Kyle was going to bite me in that first cut scene.

Posted by: JANNA

the best cutscene stuff was the FMV ones from the original jedi knight dark forces2. Its the Q3 engine and the artists are unfortunately not the same ones who did the original JK stuff :/ i do find it odd tho that u have to lead ur target with a weapon that shoots coherent bursts of light.... but thats been the way of all star wars stuff including the movies. heheh

anyone out there know much about the Q3 controller configuration and how to setup up rudder controls??

Posted by: Outlaw

I just installed it, played it, and uninstalled it. All this took me about 15 minutes.
This game sucks!

Posted by: Tecil

You didn't give it long enough. You should always play a game for a couple hours unless it is just plain horrible.

I think the Majority has this one on you sniper.

I haven't even tried the single player game, so I don't have anything to compre to it. I'll give it a whirl later tonight and maybe my thoughts would change, but the MP is solid.

Well the single player IS horrible. The saber and force powers are the only reason people are enjoying the multiplayer. It's different than what's out there.

I like MP, but I baught this game for the single player mainly. You know. Because the original had excellent single player. I could even live with the bad cutscenes if gameplay seemed good. It came off as cheap to me.

Posted by: Tecil

The sorry thing is that I like the multiplayer and I have been playing on no force servers.

If I play with force I usually just use Healing, speed, and jump, then dump the rest into the lightsaber skills. I will try the single player game tonight.

Posted by: Asmodai

I'm on level 3 of the single player game. It's about a 50/50 spread between puzzle solving and run and gun. The game is damn difficult. To be honest, it's more tedious than fun, so I'm taking a break from it. I'll stick with Multiplayer, but I'm not going to go through the insanely hard and stupid puzzles just to continue the story, if the whole game is like this.

Posted by: Spider

Heh, you could always try playing it on easy.

I looked pretty horrible to me
I only tried the game cuz Spider told me to

Not really. Most people know within a few minutes whether or not they'll enjoy a game. Playing longer 99% of the time just reinforces that opinion.

Personally, I've found that within 10 minutes, I know if I'll like the game or not.

Posted by: Fenix2004

im heistant to get it. Whats the mutiplayer like?

Posted by: Tecil

I've played the single player for a bit. It's ok, but not great, and I can understand how someone can get tired of it real quick. Same old jumping/finding puzzles.

So I can see where you guys that don't like it are coming from. The multi-player is still a blast to play in my opinion.

And it is true that most people know within 10 mins if they like or don't like a game. I'm the same way, but I try to stick it out a little longer. Hell I thought Fallout 1 was crap the first 20 mins I played, then I actually got into the story and it's one of my all time favorites.

Posted by: Sarc

Hmmm... demo's are good.

Posted by: Asmodai

I feel that in order to get my money's worth out of a game, I play them on hard. I'm a glutton for punishment.

=)

Yeah, I was the same way with women.

Posted by: SKYHN

Is there any demo of this? Theres no way im buying it after reading this thread without playing it first.

Posted by: Sarc

(Chanting) DEMO DEMO DEMO DEMO ... ...

As if anyone from L.A. is reading this thread in the first place.

Posted by: Tarkus

Does not look like there is a demo at this point. I found a site that said they had one but then the mirror sites could not be found. From everything I've seen there is no JKII demo.

Posted by: Spider

Awesome game. Anyone gotten to ns_starpad yet? (It's like mission ten or eleven.)

[edit]Nevermind. Thanks Asmodai.[/edit]

Posted by: Tecil

My one beef with MP so far has been the people bitching about using guns. If you just want to play with sabers then play on a saber only server. I like useing both and if I feel like just using a saber there are quite a few duel servers with no weapons.

But sometimes its just fine to go stormtrooper on someone.

Posted by: Ion Silverbolt

Well Voodoo Extreme has a poll up about what people think of the game. Here's the results so far:

What are your impressions of Jedi Knight II?

Need a demo! (1200)
34%
It rocks! (1087)
30%
Pretty good (713)
20%
So-so... (349)
10%
Sucky (224)

Total Votes: 3573

Now if you figure the votes on people who actually played it:

It rocks! (1087)
45%
Pretty good (713)
30%
So-so... (349)
15%
Sucky (224)

Both IGN and Gamespot reviewed it yesterday.

IGN - 9.0 Review

Gamespot - 9.0 Review

Posted by: Ion Silverbolt

Well only 1 in 10 think the game is ass. So I guess that makes it a success.

Posted by: Spider

IGN and Gamespot say every game is "super!" Heh.

Posted by: Tecil

Yeah I tend to listed more to the player review sites like www.pcgr.com or the players on gamespot.com. The dedicated reviewers sometimes are biased towards certain genres. Labeling everything as "super" and everything else is crap sometimes just isn't enough.

Posted by: Fenix2004

Can you do co op missions in mutiplayer or team battles or is it just every man for himself?

Posted by: Spider

Multiplayer modes include
  • Duel
  • Team Free For All
  • Capture the Flag
  • Capture the Ysalimari
  • Free For All
  • Holocron Free For All
  • Jedi Master

Jedi Master is wicked fun. Only one person is the Jedi and has a lightsaber, everyone else is trying to kill him, when you kill him, you become the Jedi Master and you fight the overwhelming numbers of blaster wielding people.

Posted by: Sarc

Can you reflect blaster fire, like in J.K. D.F. II, but then kill the guy shooting at you?

Posted by: Tecil

Quote:

Yup, it owns.

Posted by: Daedleus

I've cleared entire platoons of stormtroopers by reflecting their fire back onto them. I just take my hands off the controls and sit back and watch the show. This only works when you're in the "blue" stance, where you're fast enough to block everything. Nothing gets past you.

Ironic that their own blaster fire ends up killing them.

Posted by: Sarc

Now, that's what I'm talking about.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"May the Force be with you... always."
Posted by: Nfested
If you are facing one way and reflecting and someone shoots you from behind will it still be reflected?
Posted by: Spider
Uhm, no.
Posted by: Qui Gon-Jinn
ok... so my b-day was last week.. parents gave me 50$.. said get what you want.. so I opted for the Boxed Collecters Edition.. got 3 games and a cool little lightSABER keychain.. JKII first.. have yet to install the other 2 games..
my opion.. it looks like fun.. I need to understand it a little more.. and then go kick some butt.. till then.. I will be the guy slicing at the wall.. and shooting from across the map...
Posted by: taco_fox
anyone else think Desann was a little too easy to beat? I killed him with two swipes in strong mode.
Posted by: Sops
He was easy, if u used that invincible energy thing in the middle. I tried chopping him to death and he just choked me
Single player, i thought, was fun. I probably won't play it again anytime soon like i did with Jedi Knight. I beat that game both for the light side and dark and on all difficuty levels!!!! I still like the orginal. I like its multi maps
Posted by: Spider
Everyone's easy if you use your bullet-time ... err force speed.
Posted by: SKYHN
The demo for JKII came out yesterday. This game is awesome! Graphics are great too, contrary to what I heard. I was playing on Jedi Master, that shiz is hella hard, I had to fight the boss at least 40x til I finnaly defeated him. I get great framerates too with Quincunx AA on.
Im definitely picking this game up now.
Posted by: Fenix2004
Hey sky I got the demo too. How do you beat the first level I got the captains keys where do i go?
Posted by: SKYHN
You have to open the big door inside the first room. If your in 3rd person view, aim the crosshair right at the door lock and hit the activate key, if the crosshair isnt pointed at the key door lock, it wont open. If your in FPS view, just hit the activate key.
Posted by: Freak
Where did you get this demo from ? (Site)
I tried various sites and they were all busy.
Posted by: SKYHN
Try JediKnightii.net, scroll down a bit, there are a bunch of mirrors somewhere. I downloaded mine from 3DGamers.
Posted by: Fenix2004
I got my from http://www.lucasarts.com
Thanks for helping me get past the board i dident know how to open doors.
Posted by: Freak
The demo is awesome! I even beat it on Jedi Master level, bringing the 2 dark jedi to the beginning of the level just for the hell of it Fun how they fall off the level.
what button is the activate key?
Posted by: Freak
default is E
Posted by: Nfested
I just played the demo and I wasn't impressed. Running around as a Jedi and using your lightsabre was fun, but it got very repetitive just getting keys to open the next section of the level. I hope the actual game isn't like this.
Posted by: Freak
Yeah I thought I could burn a hole with the lightsaber like in Episode I
The best part of the demo : Fighting with the Dark Jedi and starting on Jedi Master level at the beginnning and letting the swarm of stormtroopers shoot you, while deflecting with the lightsaber!!
Posted by: Freak
I got the game.
The first few levels in the single player are indeed boring. Still have not acquired my lightsaber yet.
Multiplayer is fun, really hard with the lightsaber. Other than that, its just a slower version of Quake.
Posted by: Darky!
Cheap moves for MPlay.
Use "Pull" on your apoonent to trip them, then, with your lightsaber in Red-Stance, and run and hit them, it should kill them instantainiously.
Also, normally, it only takes two complete force grips to kill somone.
The fastest way to rake in points is to kill people in the flag room in CTF.
Also, try running straight up to people, and hitting jump when you run into them, you should do a flip off of them, knocking them down. NOTE: The latest patch makes this Near-Impossible to preform.
Posted by: Freak
Yeah I found out a little trick using red stance, the jump, flip, and overhead slash is nearly unblockable and also knocks the opponent on the floor. Nice. Very hard to pull somebody over , it almost never works for me. And Grip is hard to use too, they always push me back.
Posted by: Nfested
Jedi Knights 2 has just been annouced for Xbox and Gamecube.
Yay
Posted by: Darky!
When you grip them, swing them around, where your targeter goes, they go, so swing them around, and they'll have a hard time targetting you for push.
