Damn you Jamie Lee Curtis

I'm starting to not like Voicestream very much. For those who may not know, Voicestream is a cellular service provider (Jamie Lee Curtis is the spokesperson. If you don't know who she is, you are beyond help). Well anywas seeing as how I had no credit history when I activated an account with them they requested a $250 cash deposit that would be returned to me after 12 months. Well some how the transaction got messed up, I mean I received an acount, a receipt, and the phone worked, but when I received the bill in the mail it said that I still owed them $250 for the deposit. I even had a rep call from Voicestream and tell me I owed them the money. Well I told them that I paid cash when I got the phone. 'Oh, okay then. It just takes until the end of the billing cycle for cash deposits to clear.' Well when I received my bill in the mail it said that I still owed $250 dollars. I received the bill on a Friday and it was due in about 2 weeks times. As I was driving to make my payment (still 2 weeks early mind you) I tried to make a call. I was informed that my account was overdue and that my call was being redirected to 'customer services'. I hung up in disgust and explained what was going on to the rep at the office where I make my payments about how the $250 dollar deposit didn't clear (he was the one that took the deposit, rung it up, and gave me the receipt) and how now even though it says on my bill I have 2 weeks to pay, my phone isn't working. Well I sat while he called the main office and explained things, while he gave the lady on the other end the transaction number over the phone, heard her reverify and confirm the transaction number (which to me means they know I gave them the money). I even asked him to fax her a copy (didn't see this actually take place the fax was in the back room). I was assured it was all taken care of. My phone was working again less than 15 minutes later. I received another call maybe a week or two ago at 9am (which sort of sucks when you get in from work and go to bed at 8 am) in which I was told I owed over $300 now, I calmly explained to her what had happened, then again less calmly. Then I read her my transaction number from my original receipt, then I yelled at her and hung up. I believe I may have called her a few choice words. But to my credit I did go through the entire stroy from start to finish 3 times, even giving her names and numbers to check on to prove my claims. I didn't receive another call, but I did receive a text message a few days later telling me I was overdue. I ignored it. I received a letter two days ago in the mail informing me that they have verified that I did indeed make my deposit... hmm now that I think of it I can't find it, but I'm pretty sure it didn't say on what date they received my deposit. This is all just a minor inconvenience and annoyance except for the fact that if I am past due on a payment I do not receive my deposit back at the end of the 12 months I have to wait almost 20. And now for the kicker...

The bastards shut off my phone again LAST NIGHT. Now that's almost 6 days after they acknowledged, in writing, that my account was not past due.

my dad and mom and me get the cheapest service every few or 4 months..But we all get new phones

erek, may i suggest a prepaid calling plan? no deposit, no credit crap. you buy the phone and the amount you want on it.

Easiest thing to do is to cancel the service, then resign up for it at a different location. Ive had to do that with a phone before too because they couldnt get it right.

Voicestream just plain sucks.

I paid $130 for my phone from a Voicestream dealer. I had their service for over a year on a 29.99 plan for 1000 minutes. When I got my new job, I was issued a new phone free of charge to me, so I called and cancled my Voicestream account. I was up to date and never late.

3 months after I cancled it I get a bill for $220 saying I owed them for the phone that I originally purchased.

Needless to say I fought and fought, even went back to the same dealer and was all for not. When I got the final collection notice (the one that says pay us or meet us at court this date) I finally forked it over and gave in.

Needless to say my work phone is through Verizon. I got a phone for my wife through there. Never had a single problem with them. Better rates too. 1000 minutes per month + free weeknights and weekends.

I would not have paid Tecil. But then being stubborn is an endearing trait of mine. I also keep all my receipts in a brown manila envelope in a safe place just in case businesses try that.

Yes

tecil, did you read your contract? if you cancel your account prior to a specified date, they reserve the right to demand that payment of the phone, which is always excessive.

Oh yea, well my gf got a cell a few months ago and every 2 days after she recieves the bill she gets a call telling her she is behind payment. she pays them within a week of getting the bill. Last month they cut her off so we went down to the store and asked about it and it turns out the due date was 2 hours after they send out her bill.

Yeah it was only a 12 month contract. I had this phone for almost 2 years.

well im pretty much stuck with it for 12 months after which ill not be coming back, jamie lee curtis be damned. sad thing is i got the cell phone to help build credit (didnt have a credit card at the time, hence the cash deposit). aww well live, get smacked around, blow up a small company building, and learn i guess (wonder how that would translate into french?)

Posted by: redwench

well, this is seriously hurting your credit. you need to make an in-person visit to the local customer service center, and make sure this gets straightened out and removed from your credit history.

I believe Jamie Lee Curtis was born a boy and a girl.

well i talked to someone at customer service (called the 1-800 number) and i talked her through the entire story up til then, i gave her a bunch of transaction numbers, receipt numbers, etc. was put on hold a number of times and finally told that all inquiries had come back saying that they did receive the deposit (so she told me that the three times i asked it came back to them that they did infact have my money, but they were still trying to charge me for it). she told me the phone would be turned on, that she would send an inquiry to the cash office and i would have a definite answer in 72 hrs, and that my bill was due 6 april.

My cellular provider was Powertel, but Voicestream bought them out recently. I'm changing as soon as this month's calling is up.

I'm likely going to Sprint. They pretty much have the best cellular service in my opinion. I'll get a nicer phone out of it too.

Drop that voicestream bullshit. I'm about to.

Posted by: Rayneeday

Ouch! my head hurts just reading about this. We had sprint for a year or so, it worked fine since we were on the pre-pay plan. I have never had Voicestream and after reading this i dont think i ever will.
Besides, Jamie Lee Fitness has never been my favorite person! We just got a Cricket phone and it seems to be doing fine so far. It's only local calls but it is unlimitted minutes and you can pre-pay for long distance at 8 cents a minute. Good luck with your phone and dont let them screw up your credit.

Posted by: Erekose

heh no worries ill get it in writing or ill take them to court. still waiting on the final word. bills due on the 6th but ill pay it tomorrow
