Hi! First time on the forum, I must really be in bad shape to ask for help. I have been to bnet and no solution there. I have been playing dII a long time on dsl modem. This week, I suddenly get a message when logging on that says
" unable to connect
unable to connect to battlenet
if using a modem, it may need to connect to your isp
before connecting to battlenet"
Well, my dsl modem is up and running, I can surf the web, view web pages, etc. I have norton firewall, it has always let me on before, checked the rules, it says dII is allowed. So I turned off the firewall (hate to do that) but still no luck. So, because I have no life, and there is nothing else to do, I do a complete uninstall, reload the game, still the same message. I then manually get the lates patch, still no luck. Can anybody help? Baal must die!!!

First Welcome!
Lots of good people here willing to help, we hope we can help you solve your problem. Though we may need some system specs to help us.
Anyway I have seen this problem many times here, have you seen this: Battle.net is designed to work with any 32-bit TCP/IP connection, however your Internet Service Provider or network may use a firewall or proxy server that is configured to restrict ports that Battle.net needs to send and receive game data. Contact your ISP or network administrator and ask them to open Port 6112 to send and receive both UDP and TCP packets.

Hey, thx for the quick reply. I solved my problem. It had to do with the firewall, but not Norton's. My son likes to play Kali, which Norton will not let him do, so he has a habit of turning it off. I freak with no firewall on, so I downloaded zonealarm for him to use when on kali, but that prevented hookup also. Well, long story short, i deactivated the zonealarm, but didnt uninstall it. So, you got me thinkings, i ripped out zonealarm, (it went, kicking and screaming all the way) and guess what? BACK ON DII!!!! It was apparently stopping access EVEN THO IT WASN"T UP AND RUNNING!! Go figure. now, my next question, how do I get to put one of those kewl quotes at the end of MY messages? hmmm?
