Jack Valenti is a Jackass

This man is off his rocker. Literally.

First, read this.

"There are more than nine and a half million broadband subscribers now. Once those large pipes and high-speed access subscribers begin to increase, we can be terrorized by what's going on."

OMG! I downloaded a Ludacris MP3 with my broadband, IM A TERRORIST!

Everyone with broadband is a "Cyberterrorist" in this mans eyes. Lets all call up the FBI ask for John Ashcroft and turn ourselves in.

Music and Movie sales are down. Well no duh! 90% of everything sucks now. What in the blue hell was the movie "Glitter"? A box office flop.

I bet I havent been to the movies in a year because of so much crap. The last movie I can remember I went to was Star Wars Episode 1.

As for music, look what has happened to it. They raised the prices to like $18 a CD now. Half the time a full album only has 2 or 3 decent/good songs out of all 12 to 15 on it. Im not gonna shell out $18 for a CD with 1 song that I will listen to while the rest are crap.

thats an interesting theory of yours skyhn. if you only want part of the package, instead of taking or leaving it, you rip it open, and steal what you want.

thieves always have excuses why they shouldnt pay for what they want. cost is usually the big one.

Im not saying I dont buy any CD's now, I just buy fewer now. And you cant return an open CD unless its defective. Downloading 1 or 2 songs isnt stealing, Downloading an entire album is.

Besides, I would estimate that more than 95% of MP3's on the net are either low quality or distorted. I ended up buying a CD just a few days ago because I couldnt find good enough quality Mp3's of 3 songs off the whole CD that I wanted. $17 later, the CD is around here somewhere and the 320kbps MP3's I ripped off of it are in Winamp playing as we speak.

I bought CD's until 1 year ago(Ive had access to Internet MP3's for years) when albums turned to crap. The record companies care less about content now and more about how fast they can get it out to make money. Kid Rock's "Devil Without a Cause" album was damn good, I bought it, liked almost every song on it. "American Badass" comes out 1 year later....Utter Crap. 2 out of 14 songs good on it, coincidentally those are the only 2 songs on the whole CD that got Music Videos compared to his last CD that got 5 or 6 videos. I even remember Kid Rock saying on Howard Stern one day that the songs he wanted to put on the Album werent ready because the Record company wanted the album out early. So he had to put other songs on it. He didnt say it was crap, because no artist would call their product crap, but he never said that this album was spectacular.

I'd give him the money to say it was crap without getting the CD in return, just because someone has some balls to stand up to their employer.
The only music I really listen to is game music or some old disco for fun. Stuff you can't readily buy.

Well anyways, the main point of the thread is that he called broadband users "Terroists". Last time I checked, Im not a terrorist.

This guy is also backing that outrageous bill to ban homebuilt PC's and all that other stuff.

didn't you go watch resident evil?

Which was also crap, btw.

That first part is a pretty fine line to walk. I will take $5 out of your pocket but it is not theft because I did not take all of your money.

Record companies have always pushed schedule over quality. They get more sales due to immediate popularity of the artist. It is a rare case where the whole album is good. We used to always tape music from lps we purchased, in the old days, because there were only a few good cuts from most albums. This goes in cycles.

As for Jack, the clown can't make a sensible arguement so he must demonize his enemy to bolster his stance. I could care less how much/little the record companies make but I do care about the loss of revenue to the artists.

i use peer-to-peer to get music, software, videos, etc. is it wrong, perhaps. do i do it becuase its cheap, yep. do i still go to the movies, weekly usually more than once a week. do i still buy cd's, yep though not very often. do i still rent/buy movies, yep.but why am i going to drive across two towns to rent a movie for the 3rd or fourth time when i already own it (almost all of my vhs are in storage. i have about 15 of 400+). ill get a few songs from a cd that i havent heard on the radio so i can compare it with what i have heard to decide if i want to buy the cd. i also get a lot of mp3's from friends of artists ive never heard of, nor can i find anywhere. jack johnson being a good examle. i know that now you can buy the cd, but ive got a few live performances from before the cd came out. anyways im not defending one side or the other, but no matter what laws they put in effect if people want it theyre gonna get it

Don't buy CDs! Download the songs, and mail your band $5 - $10! Down with the record companies!

Posted by: SKYHN

I saw someone on a board say: "Jack Valenti is the same guy that when the VCR came along, said that it was the greatest threat to the Movie Industry."

Thats just funny.

I'd do that if 1) There was anything I listen to nowadays and 2) I actually knew the address for one of the members.
