Playing Morrowind?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Just curious how many of you are going to be playing Morrowind at the end of the month (assuming that's still the current release date). With DS being as huge as it is I don't know if I'll have enough time for both plus a real life. What are your plans?

Marrowind looks awsome to me. If gameplay is as good as the graphics, I'll get it. I'm going to wait and see what other people think of it before I buy it though.

Well, considering that I'm tired of dungeon siege already, I'm hoping morrowind isn't a pile of shit.
If it is, it's going to be a long, desolate year for my gaming habits.

Oh, and since the game hasn't been announced as gold yet, I highly doubt you see it at the end of the month.

Morrowind will go in my pile of single-player games to play

EB was playing a demo of it for the X Box version. Looks awsome.

i intend to rent it for the xbox if it doesnt suck i will buy the xbox version

MW sounds interesting..but is probably too much for my system (p3 650 256meg geforce 2). I will probably try it..and upgrade if I like it. Can't wait to use the editor.

Anyone try out this puppy yet? It is in stores. In fact the local EB sold out already.

Got it today..running smooth on my less than stellar system. (local EB outlet at the mall had tons of regular and CE versions). Currently walking to Balmora.
It's very cool...and kind of overwhelming..have no idea what I am doing. Never played Daggerfall and haven't done a real rpg since Ultima 3..

Can you compare it to DS? Are you enjoying it more or less? Is it similar or fairly different? Thanks.

It feels totally different than DS. I feel really out of sync with it so far but that's just because I never do single player rpgs (DS to me was just an advanced Diablo) and don't like questioning every npc I run into (something that happens alot...they are always jabbering at me). Finished a quest which opened up the game in scope by reaching a town and finding a guy and now have many things I could be doing. The game is unfolding before me and I have so much to learn yet and absorb. The town just arrived in seems so real like you could go and actually find it somewhere ( water effects are still nice even without pixel shading that my geforce 2 can't do. The game reminds me of Ultima 9 in feel (a game I never really got to far into due to a slow computer at the time) The only real problem I am having is with the interface which in time I know I will become accustomed to it. It's just different than the online first person rpg's I am used to doing. So all in all..I love it.

I loved ultima 9 . so much so that i struggled all the way through it, even with the slow to a hault speed of the game due to what ever was wrong with the programing. Sometims it seemed like it took for ever just to get somewhere even in the same town
Wolf
PS I think i loved Raven not our raven, but the gal in the game

Sure lots of plot in this game...I am in a secret group..so I join another group and do tasks for them so I can advance and appear to be part of the status quo so I can then do tasks for my original group on the sly... meanwhile I want to join a thieves guild. Outside it is pouring down rain..with the town banners flapping in the breeze. It's a beautiful game even on my old geforce 2 and very smooth at 1280x960 with full clipping.

Cheer up EoT..maybe the game co can get you inserted into the game so you can keep an eye on wolfie if he ever plays MW. hehe

lol Jedrow As much as we all play these games it's a wonder that they don't have ALL of us in them! hehe

I heard that Morrowind ran smooth on below min spec systems too. One guy was running it on a 350MHz machine and said he had little problems.
I think I'll buy it in time, but not right now cause I just went to EB and spent too much money on games.
Dungeon Siege
Jedi Outcast
Worms World Party for PS1
Ya just can't beat a good ol' game of Worms

If you turn the draw distance down, it should be fine on slower systems. Indoors I get super high framerates on my machine, it's only outdoors that chug, and only then, because I maxxed out the draw distance, cause I'd rather see far than have a high framerate.

running morrowind on a 350mhz? hmmmm ;D
maybe i can run it then
Posted by: SwizzleStick
Running it on a 350 with the other minimum specs will give you like 10 fps on the lowest view distance with at least a GeForce 2 and 256 ram.
If you have the game I seriously recommend you download the nocd safe disk crack. Its not supported, but performance is increased dramatically and can add about 10 fps for you. To get the fps go into the ini file and set fps=0 to 1
My copy runs fine on a PIII 600, GeForce 2 mx, and 512 Ram and the nocd crack.
I think they had to add the safedisk thing into Morrowind because of new laws or something? Anyway none of the posts on the official boards are being locked for posting links to it.
Posted by: Null Actor
Safedisc is a copy protection scheme that publishers tend to push on developers, even if they don't want it.
Has nothing to do with laws, just stupid people.
Posted by: SwizzleStick
Well anyway, it looks as though Bethesda doesn't care if people are using it or not. I'm sure it will be the same with other companies when they have it on their games.
Posted by: Null Actor
There are tons of games with safedisc. And they don't like you using cracks.
Posted by: Asmodai
Just to clarify -- that NoCD crack isn't actually NoCD, it just removes Safedisc checking. I still need the CD to play, it just runs much better.
Posted by: SwizzleStick
Yeah it eliminates CD checking every time you load into a new area and a few other things that it checks. I've noticed the movies and overall loading ran smoother and faster.

I've got a P3 450 / 384 RAM / GeForce3 Ti ... I wonder if I'll have trouble? Hmmm
Posted by: ewok_kebab
I have been loaned a copy and I am curious to see how it will play on my P3 667 with 128k RAM and a Riva TNT 2.
I will post back and let y'all know as there seems to be a lot of interest from lower spec pc gamers.
I have a feeling I will be getting the Xbox version.....
Posted by: Freak
blackout that processor is a serious bottleneck for your system
Posted by: ewok_kebab
Well I tried it on my system and it starts out ok, but as soon as I leave the first town the slowdown kicks in. I put everything on low settings and still no joy. If you dont have a 1gig processor and a 64 meg graphics card you will not enjoy this game.
Posted by: bLaCkOuT
Ya, I really need a new system. Can't run DS at anymore than 25 FPS too. Just gotta raise the $ first. I know what I want and its not too expensive, gotta convinece my wife though heheheh. Budgets, a neccessary evil.
Looks like Bethesda sent my friend 2 copies of Morrowind. He sent them an email back about it and I'm hoping they won't want to deal with it so they'll say keep it. If thats the case my friend says I have a free copy of Morrowind.
I can just keep it till I get a new comp =)
