Wanna take yer shot at NWN early? See if you can enter the open beta test then! Here's the announcement verbatim from the Bioware press release:
EDMONTON, Alberta, Canada – April 22nd, 2002 – BioWare Corp. and Infogrames Inc. are pleased to present the limited open Beta test for one of the most anticipated PC games of the year - Neverwinter Nights. Selected PC game fans will have an unprecedented opportunity to dig into the rich world of Neverwinter Nights before anyone else.
"Neverwinter Nights will appeal to all types of gamers. This limited beta test will allow selected gamers, of every type and interest, an opportunity to find out why Neverwinter Nights is a ‘must own’ addition to every gamer’s collection," said Greg Zeschuk, Joint CEO and Co-Executive Producer of Neverwinter Nights. "We’ve never conducted an open beta test before," added Ray Muzyka, BioWare’s Joint CEO and Co-Executive Producer of Neverwinter Nights. "We’ll be testing module designs, connectivity, and other technical aspects of the game, as well as offering the growing Neverwinter Nights community a snapshot of what we’ve been working on at BioWare these last five years," he concluded.
To enter the Beta test program, prospective testers must visit (http://www.betatests.net/), click on "Register Now" and complete the sign-up form. BioWare and Infogrames staff will select beta testers every week in a rolling acceptance process. The initial wave of Beta discs will be sent to the lucky first testers in early May.
Come, you know you want to sign up. I already sent mine

Every time I click "Register Now" it loads for a few seconds then I get a blank screen.
*Keeps clicking.*

Spider,
Look here to fix your problem.
It might help if that's your problem.

Well, I think I applied for it... not sure as after I hit submit, it took me to a completely white screen. *crosses his fingers*

Ahh, another beta.
I hope I will be "selected" for this one too...

I'm less excited about the concept of possibly beta testing the game, than I am about the fact that we are actually going to see this game released in the not-to-distant future.

Have fun BETA-TESTING!!!
Personally I think with the large number of good releases this year I'll have a hard time keeping up with *cough* finished products *cough*.

Hrmmm. Problem.
When I go to request the Neverwinter Nights beta signup, it asks me to present my login information again.
I present the information, and it brings me back to the rest screen with nothing present under "your current requests". Rinse. Repeat.
Any thoughts on this?
Posted by: Swilo
Same thing, except the option to request more things is now empty. I'm assuming it worked.
Posted by: Gunslinger
Still doing the same thing for me. NWN still appears on the options list, and still won't officially select.

I'm on the list! neener neener neener!!

Let the people here know when you get tired of it so they can try it too, since you say it sucks so much
Posted by: Null Actor
We'll see ... but I like being mean.
Posted by: Swilo
You cheated.
Posted by: Null Actor
Of course I cheated!
You didn't think I'd waste my time trying to get it the public way when I have connections inside, did you?

I was reading earlier on a site that NWN will be on DVD Disc only? Is there any truth to that?
Posted by: redwench
i would rather doubt it. that would limit thier customer base substantially. they may release a dvd version, but i know of no game that is only released on dvd.
Posted by: SKYHN
It seems kinda fishy. It would be nice if they offered a DVD Version in addition to a CD Version. Although DVD Drives are more common now. But there are those that still have CDRom only.
I signed up for the beta, Hopefully I get in. Game looks fun.

I don't have a DVD drive. DVD drives are more common now, but not common enough for developers to make a good amount of money releasing DVD-only games.

They could make a ton if the DVD version had extras like movies and walkthroughs. If they made deals with DVD manufacturers for discounts on drives after a rebate they'd make even more.
Now why am I not in business?...

Gah, I dont think im gonna get in the Beta aftering reading this in the Beta FAQ:
The initial testers will be selected based of their involvement in the NWN forum's and if they meet certain hardware specs. Bioware has a strong loyalty to the community and wants to ensure they have a first crack at the beta.
And theres a crapload of people on their forums. Luck is the only thing getting me in this beta.

depends. if you have a common hardware setup, you wont get it. that will be thier primary criteria--hardware.

I've got a voodoo3 PCI in an amd 1.4ghz tbird, HOW CAN I LOSE?!

Actually, that's a myth.
Most publishers have hardware testing labs, with people who know how to set up computers. They'd do hardware compatability testing there, where it's a controlled environment.
Joe public with his computer, if he has a problem, it could be 4294967296 things other than hardware, so it just makes the developer's life hell.
Chances are they only use hardware specs for making sure you meet the recommended requirements.

I signed up for the One Must Fall beta not realizing that they were going to be mostly taking people that were active in the forums. I hadnt heard about a new OMF game, years ago it was my favorite game for DOS. But I actually got in. So maybe Ill get into this one too.
