Improving FPS in Dungeon Siege

Here are a couple ways you can do to help increase your FPS in Dungeon Siege.
1. Turning off "vsync" may improve performance. Goto the advanced display properties in the Control Panel.
If there is no setting for it for your card, you can disable it by creating a shortcut to the Dungeon Siege .exe and placing "vsync=false" (no quotes) in the command line.
2. DirectX 8.1 has a known bug or debug problem I should say that may hinder your FPS. First, grab the directX control panel utility that's appeneded to this thread and place it in your Windows/System folder if you're using Windows 98/Me. If on Windows 2000 or XP, place this file in your WinNT/System32 directory.
After that, goto the control panel and you will now see the DirectX Control panel in your control panel.. Click on it and select Directsound. Move the debug bar all the way to the left. Having this set to the right eats a lot of CPU power. If you're using EAX, you will especially notice an increase in FPS. This one helped increase my performance about 8 FPS and removed the occasional EAX echo sound I was getting. If this option gives you problems, just slide the debug bar farther to the right where it was.
Usual Tips on increasing performance- Before playing Dungeon Siege, shut down all unnecessary programs. Programs such as virus scanners, instant messengers, and other background applications can hinder your maximum performance in the game. Hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and remove any applications and processes that you know are not esential to running the PC, or the game.
- In the game options, there is a setting that lets you run the game in high priority. Select it for improved performance.
- Selecting a lower resolution may improve your FPS. Going from 32 to 16 bit color may also improve performance. Check the video options for different resolutions.
- Update your sound and video card drivers. If you have problems with the latest drivers, try the next version just below it. If you see WHQL certified drivers, they are generally the best as far as stability goes.
If anyone has any helpful tips that helped them run DS better, please post here. Thanks. - OTS Staff

If you have a shitty sound card like mine, Live! Value, and want max fps, turn sound off. I got an improvement of 10-20 FPS average. 20 fps to 35 fps. No sound sucks, but its a lot smoother.

ive had my sound turned off for various reasons while playing the game. no diff in fps, but i have an audigy.

Audigys are less cpu intensive then the Live! series, so thats probably why.
