I don't mind the number of posts anyone makes in these forums. As long as the right topic is in the right forum, and as long as the posts themselves are not offensive or just made for the sake of increasing post count, it's perfectly acceptable.

We're very "democratic" in thisyere parts, even though we did not invent the Internet *get it?*

Hehe maybe I should start looking into the other forums. This is usually the only forum I bother checking in because of my slow connection and load times hehe.

But this site loads up pretty darn quick, so yeah hehe...

Hehe, you mean, pretty DAMN quick! http://www.opentechsupport.net/forums/biggrin.gif Laggy, you mainly use .gifs? or .jpegs? Which is usually smaller with better quality?

I use GIFs mostly on this site.

JPGs can hold more color than GIFs, but they are lossy (which means the picture quality can degrade siginificantly depending on the compression ratio). JPGs are smaller files most of the time because of this compression feature. For photos, 3D images, and other graphics that have a LOT of color in them, JPGs are the best choice.

GIFs only follow a 256-color spectrum, so you see a lot of "dithering" when photos are saved as GIFs. However, they are more versatile because they can be interlaced (this means it loads everything blurred then sharpens out as the page loads, as opposed to JPGs which load images gradually from top to bottom), and of course, transparency, which is highly useful for non-grayscale or non-standard backgrounds. Because of all this special information on the image, GIF files are usually larger than JPGs.

GIFs are better if you are using color-palletes that stay within the bounds of the 256-color web-friendly color spectrum. For example, GIFs with just black, white and gray as the color are very very small, as opposed to when it is saved as JPGs.

OTS.Net uses GIFs exclusively because it's color layout is basically black, blue, white and silver/grey.

And I'm glad it loads fast for you UO http://www.opentechsupport.net/forums/smile.gif

Thanks, that helps a bunch..and I always wondered what "interlaced" meant when photoshop asked me normal or interlaced http://www.opentechsupport.net/forums/biggrin.gif
