*Sticks a fork in OTS*

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Well, not really, but the timer is ticking.

We've discussed everything we can. We've argued about everything. All discussions have turned into lame arguments (I'm just waiting for the Star Trek discussion to get ugly). Sides have been made and people agree with their friends and disagree with the others. Even the console gaming forum has these lame bickering back and forth threads. Nova is threatening to resign (like hes some kind of president ). People are waiting for every thread to be closed. Mods think people hate them. Mods are banning quite a few more people than usual. And worst of all, people are taking stuff here far to serious.

Lets blow up the discussion forums and stick to games and support.

Posted by: Null Actor

'Twasn't a threat.

Posted by: Gunslinger

But he makes a point.

For any staff members that come across this thread, I refer you to this.

Staff, because nobody else will be able to access it.

Posted by: Digitalphatman

But I really do not know what the big fuss is about. Have any of you seen other forums(hardforum comes to mind). This really isn't all that bad here. When a forum grows and gets as big as OTS or bigger stuff like this just happens. There will always be new members that start new threads and are cool. Then there will be your, how shall i say trolls. THere will always be petty arguments in which ppl just argue really nothing at all, ppl will say things that aren't the nicest in the world. Mods will do their job and ban ppl as they see fit.

I GUESS WHAT I AM SAYING IS I DO NOT SEE WHAT THE BIG DEAL IS ABOUT? I am not trying to be an A$$ but i feel that this is just normal for a forum.

And if I wish hard enough it will all be perfect.

And there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home.

AK47? or the deranged mind of Stalin?

Yeah [H]ardOCP forums are a non-stop flaming barrage. I think a lot of the flak we get is because that type of behavior is allowed in most other forums. Here we try to keep everything respectable since our main focus is tech support.

Of course we're not perfect. All we can do is try.

If even petty bashing and flaming is taking place within the console gaming forum, imagine how much more there will be if the discussion forums were removed.

There is a reason why the support forums are placed much higher than the discussion forums. That should say something.

DigitalPhatman brings up a very good point - have some of you actually seen the other forums out there? Some of you people have not even seen REAL flaming, forums where they allow bashing conversations to take place for fear of "stifling" the members' "pseudo" freedom of speech. Some even allow threats and racist remarks because "members are free to express themselves and we won't prevent them from doing so." What a load of bullshit from clueless and repressed administrators

The moderation here in OTS is something to be very thankful for, regardless of whether you like the moderators or not...

Posted by: Null Actor

Yup, these forums are a freakin DREAM compared to most. At least here you know moderators are looking out, making sure you aren't getting shit advice from someone. Unlike, oh, 99% of the other forums out there that are filled with a bunch of ****ing morons drooling back and forth at one another.

Posted by: Shalome

Call it what you will, but OTS is a community. Every community gets into discussions, and some of those discussions turn into arguments because a lot of people don't have the necessary communication skills to express their opinion without getting deragatory. That's life.

What bothers me is that when the moderators step in and try to clean up the mess, THEY get attacked as well. If people want to flame, they should do it in private or take it to another online community altogether.

Posted by: The_Druidess

omg I can't believe this. Well I only come here for the disccusions so I would deff be gone with them.People argue its part of life hell look at married people.

Posted by: Arta

bah ots is doing fine

Posted by: justinious

When I first came to this Forum I needed help with a bunk vid card (1000 deaths to milliontek!). I browsed the threads and lurked for awhile. What I found was *gasp* a friendly, all-are-welcome attitude. For the longest time I had grown disillousioned with the online community. I had run across the usual immature Trolls, Flamers, etc. Then, boom, I find this wonderful Forum where ppl actually help others be they newbies or technophiles. Also, the Discussion Forums always have something interesting to be said. Can't we all be mature and agree to disagree. I would be saddened to see this place go the way of the Dodo.

Just my opinion, but I felt I had to say something.

Yeah OTS is no where near as bad as some of the other message board/forums out there. You guys actually do an awesome job of keeping everything toned down most of the time.

Try the Maximum PC Forums sometime. Personal attacks are quite normal, and flamming is the only way to post most of the time. You should have seen the thread on Creation Vs. Evolution, something like 50,000 posts and all of them were just bashing flamewars. They had a huge troll population, thats only purpose was to debunk and make everyone else looks stupid.

I found OTS one day when I did a search for support forums on Google. I was tired of all that crap there. Because it was no longer a support site, it had degenerated into a my computer/os/dog is better than yours.

Not everyone can agree on everything all the time. There are always going to be arguments, with difference of opinions. It's human nature.

Posted by: Forty-Three

I second Arta, OTS is in fine shape, even WITH the way discussions tend to go. No forum is ever going to be perfect. The day I see an open membership forum where every user and regular is considerate and intelligent 100% of the time is the day my monitor sprouts legs and walks around the room. You're always going to have people with superiority complexes, an you're always going to have people with sub-par communication skills. They're like gas and matches. That's why there are mods that take an active role in their job. They're human, they're subject to making bad judgement now and then, but then again, so are the users.

If you think this is a shitstorm, you should have seen some of the uphevals that TG had over the years (and TG is one of the better run boards I've seen in a while).

Other than that, I don't have anything to say that hasn't been said already. Back to lurking and catching up on what I missed the past few weeks

Posted by: redwench

*bites everyone*

behave, or ill sic laggy on you.

Posted by: Heathen

*begin rant*

AGHHHhhh

I love OTS.. this is the first forum I've actually hung around for more than a week on. I enjoy the debates we have here and I also like helping people out and recieving help in return.

OTS is doing well... if you remove certain forums.. you lose a part of what makes OTS great.

I've stayed away from the bickering because I'm not interested in it. I ignore it and treat certain post with the contempt they deserve... I ignore them!!

I love OTS and maybe I'm in a minority here, but I think the moderators do a great job... especially for the pay

Long live OTS ... just the way it is.

If ya don't like it here... then do come here.... posting concerns about members, moderators or posts on public boards in fine as long as we remain respectfull of said members or moderators. But we do have a Private Message system... if you have a problem... PM Laggy or a moderator and voice concerns to them... in private.

Blatant flaming of other members and posts in anoying and childish.

*end rant*

Posted by: uh...ok

Err... with AP testing and Dungeon Sieging and all the rest of my life going on I haven't been around OTS much... but I don't see any bad stuff going on at all. I guess it's because I don't go to the Console Gamer's forum or something?

And then I noticed earlier that Nova's sig said "PS: I'm not a moderator" and was about to post in General forum asking about it but then thought "Maybe he's kidding around again."

And I thought, the best place to look would be in here. And I found this thread.

Now I'm even more confused.

What's going on?

-uh...ok

Posted by: Canis Lupus

In answer to the Nova sig:
Yes, he's no longer a moderator starting today. He resigned from the position yesterday.

In answer to what's going on:
Read this thread
http://www.opentechsupport.net/foru...=&threadid=7500
Then read this particular one again...

Took the works right out of my mouth!

I can't tell you how many forums I have seen that condone bashing, racist remarks, and the mods and admin people do nothing about it! I was a mod on a site once and the Admin people engaged in a conversation about minority people and that they should all learn the English lanquage. Yata, yata, yata.
Anyway I could not moderate a fourm that allowed that kind of behavior on the site. When I would warn someone about they're remarks, the Admin person would tell me not to harass the members! So I could not do it anymore. Anyway I feel that Laggy does a good job backing his staff and always tries to defuse a situation before it gets out of hand. So before I get long winded here I just want to say that we have it pretty good here and we all should try to handle ourselfs with a little self control and enjoy. Just my two cents.

Posted by: Gerbilo

Bah, I don't see any major problems here, most threads tend to make sense most of the time. That is hard to get with a band of people like us

As for nova resigning, now i will be able to reply to some threads before they are closed, he was always so damn quick to find out what was going on lol....

i'm surprised there hasn't been a "Town Hall" forum created for OTS community issues such as this...

now lets all get back to being silly and the normal OTS goodness

Posted by: Blackknight

That Tee might be a bit to graphic.

Posted by: Nfested

There is definitely nothing wrong with these forums. As I have said in the Console Gaming forum, other forums are nfested with 10 years old who rant about everything think they are right (not that I don't like 10 year olds). At OTS this is completely the opposite with respectable people expressing their opinions and occasionally a little fight here and there.

Posted by: Bobaroo

I don't think it is anything to worry about.

People have different opinions which cause debates to start.

Of course in the console gaming forum people are going to defend their system, I mean they did pay $300+ for it.

Everyone just has to remember that is the internet and not make a big deal out of everything.

Posted by: Tecil

Quote:

Hell yeah thats why the newest console system I own is a Saturn. Got rid of my PS2 and Dreamcast.

Posted by: AK47

Damn right

Anyways, everyone brings up the fact that other forums are so out of hand. Well, I've never expierenced that (therefore my annoyance here may be magnified). The only other board that I post at isnt moderated at all (posts are never edited and threads never locked), but its filled with pretty smart people who occasionally flame eachother, but nothing is ever bad.

Hopefully this thread showed people how stupid discussion can get here and hopefully that will prevent it from happening in the future.

Oh well. Carry on.

Lord, burger kings around me have 2 tacos for $0.99.

How awfull

Posted by: Forty-Three

So is this a cue to start a flamewar over the superiority of Wendys over Burger Kind and every other fast food chain on the planet?

Dunno, but our BK has 100% veggie burgers now...

I can't wait until McD's R&D comes out with the McPill. The ultimate fast food.

Posted by: SKYHN

Ive got a video of a guy going into a mcdonalds, moving a table near a register and dumping out a bag of taco bell burrito's and lining them up. Then when he asks why McDonalds has Mexican Food, the woman gives him some stupid answer, so he throws the burritos at the employees! Its friggen hillarious.

I would link it, but the site its on contains some inappropriate materials...(cant zip it up either cuz its 2.5mb)

Posted by: Gerbilo

link it to my private message box then lol...

What AK? I haven't seen/heard of this....

i havne't looked at the burger king sign in a few weeks let alone eaten any of that food... interesting... damn fast food, all i've eaten todo with fast food lately is white castle, and not from the one at 75th and lemont, from the dumpy one in villa park/lombard... bastards wouldn't give casey his food.... ermmm that's another flame..

wendy's is good though.

back on what little topic their was!

*dances more with RW*

Posted by: Canis Lupus

Actually, continue with the burger topic ... the change of topic is very welcome ... maybe we'll have a burger debate going on after a couple of days...

Posted by: Gunslinger

My favorite burger is the type I cook on the grill with real ground beef, after being marinated in Dale's seasoning for a while, and garnished with some fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and onions.

Posted by: Blackknight

My favorite burger is the one that is cooked.

Posted by: SKYHN

I have never had a burger as good as the Wendys Triple Cheeseburger. That is one fine piece of food engineering.

Posted by: Shalome

My favorite burger is a veggie burger.

Posted by: Tecil

I'd say what my favorite burger is, but I'd probably get in trouble.

Actually there is a drive-in near my house that makes a really good double burger. Theres also this 50s retro place that has an awesome mushroom swiss that I get once in a while.

Posted by: Gunslinger

If anyone wants order a couple of these for me in LA, I'd cook us up some *nice* burgers at the LAN.

Woot!

Posted by: uh...ok

BK tacos... and Taco Bell ones at that.. are made of gerbil meat.

My favorites are Wendy's Bacon Cheeseburger and Jack in the Box's Ultimate Bacon Cheeseburger (oh and Sourdough Jacks!).

Obviously I like bacon cheeseburgers.

-uh...ok

Posted by: uh...ok

Strangely this topic's name is coincidentally appropriate for this... OTS burger anyone?

-uh...ok

Posted by: laborat

Posted by: redwench

wendys big bacon classic for a cheeseburger

bk's whopper for a hamburger

Posted by: air_canada

Good dad's hamburger
I feel offended! I don't like potato salad (joke!)

Posted by: Forty-Three

I'm still mourning the death of the mozzerella chicken supreme.......

Posted by: laborat

Since we are supposed to be nice and not FLAME BROIL anyone.. i retract the statement that anyone who doesnt like potato salad is an idiot. and change it to...
anyone who doesn't like potato salad is a Canadian.

Posted by: Null Actor

Well, I don't like potato salad, and I'm Canadian, so I guess your statement has been proven!!

Posted by: SKYHN

Whoa Tecil, where did you get that avatar? Its nice.

Due to the new air of being nice to people.... I therefore decline to comment on this. Treat with the contempt it deserves

Christ. Those are filthy.

I saw a friend eat one and when he picked it up, it actually flooded his tray with grease and fat. Seeing those burgers actually makes me sick.

As for my favorite burger, a place in Montana (some little dump near yellowstone) served an awesome buffalo burger. Never had a better burger than that. Fast food burgers are trash.

Fuddruckers is pretty decent.

Fast foods may be greasy and fatty, but McDonald's fries are so good.

Posted by: Shalome

Booches Burgers! I've never actually had one (cuz I don't eat red meat) but everyone in Columbia seems to love them.

*gets nostalgic for 9th St. Billiards and Booches and Music Cafe...*

Posted by: Gerbilo

Has anyone mentioned steak 'n shake yet?

I have the Bacon and Cheddar deluxe when i'm there...

good burgers really are good though, normally a 1/2lb at a non fastfood burger place.

Posted by: AK47

Yarf.

Best thing about steak and shake is the cottage cheese with the pineaple. The actual food is poop.

A long time Ago when Rosane had her own talk show, Richard Simmons came on and gave a huge "Fat Burger" from Fat Burger. While she was chewing it, he gave her an open mouth kiss...http://www.opentechsupport.net/foru...cons/icon23.gif

She almost killed him on Air.
