Help installing Diablo 2+Expansion

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

With some major effort, I managed to get D2 to install. This
required hand copying over the MPQ files everyone else seems to
have trouble with. After installing D2 and seeming to get it
installed and updated successfuly, and even able to play with no
errors, I installed LOD. This has been terrible.

I've had the computer reboot in mid-install causing me to have to
uninstall and re-install D2 again. Trying again, it crashed when it
hit the d2exp.mpq. Trying again, I got this error:

Setup was unable to add the following file to C:\Program
Files\DiabloII\d2char.mpq: binkw32.dll Error 0x00000005: Access is
denied. (P:\DATA\D2\Tools\DiabInst\source\MpqUtil.cpp:32 Install
aborted.

So, trying again, got another reboot. Tried again, got the same
error as detailed in the above paragraph. Tried again, got it
again.

Taking a few days off hoping tech support would get back to me,
which they haven't yet, I tried to think of what else to do.

Tried again, and errored out on this file:

D2DV_IX86_1xx_109d.MPQ

Tried again, rebooted. Tried again and while running through the
file integrity check, I got the error telling me there is a bad
data file and contact technical support.

If I try running the game anyway, regardless of the bad data file,
I can't play because of sprite errors or other errors referring to
other corrupted game files.

I'm beginning to wonder if I just have some bad discs or what.
Does anyone have ideas or suggestions?

Here is my system info that might help:

AMD Athlon 700MHz (L1 cache: 128.0 Kb, L2 cache: 512.0 Kb) Ext.clock: 100MHz

256 Mb (261 616 Kb) DIMM1: 256 Mb

NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 (64.0 Mb): 800 x 600 - True Color (32 bit)

Windows 2000 Professional U.S. English 5.0 (build 2195 Service Pack 2)

And, honestly I don't know what I have for a sound card, but this is what shows:

Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Right-click on "My Computer", go to "Properties".
Then click on "Device" tab. Click "Device Manager", and look under "Sound, video and game Controllers". Does it show a different Card? If so, what is it?
