Interesting Editorial on the Star Wars Universe

Although I think this guy's view is somewhat (largely) skewed, it's an interesting read and he makes a compelling point about the nature of a fictional universe.

Anyway. Read on!

The Heir to the Empire trilogy actually answers most of his questions ... I'll comment on this later after I get some errands done...

The Rebel Alliance wanted to restore the Old Republic and the Senate....and kill stormtroopers, of course.

I just like to accept George Lucas's version of Star Wars better. Why argue with the writer himself? He has some good reasoning, but it doesn't mean much if you don't want to analyze Star Wars that much.

To be perfectly honest, the same thoughts had crossed my mind in the past (as this writer) before I read this article.

However, I didn't see it as a contradiction. I saw it as a matter of circumstances.

Possible Spoiler

The Jedi don't yet know (though Yoda suspects) that Palpatine is the Dark Lord of the Sith, and the Jedi are victims of circumstance. They fight for what they see as right. When circumstances change, then allegiances change. I think it's all evidence of a changing dynamic in the star wars universe. It helps to make it diverse.

For all intents and purposes, this writer's point is moot.
