Burner Issues...

Ok this is really starting to piss me off. I just got a new burner (Verbatim, 32x12x40) because my old Creative would not burn anything anymore.
I installed this new one and everything seemed to be working fine, then my first problem came up...I tried to use Easy CD creator 5 Platinum and it would not burn any CD's because it would not recognize a CDRW. it said that i have to reinstall Easy CD creator.
So I decided to try Nero, everything worked until the middle of burning when the burn failed. Then I tried to make a Mix and it worked. So I thought maybe the first time fail was a fluke.
That was last night, today I want to burn BroodWar so I can play it on two computers. When I go to Nero it only gives me the choice to burn at 24x, 20x, 16x, 12x, and 8x. It does not give me the option to burn at 32x, and it did last night. So I went ahead and tried to burn the game at 16x and it failed about 3minutes into, I tried again at 12x and 8x and the same thing happens.
I don't know why it does this, Am I unlucky with burners? I am thinking that it has to be something wrong with my OS or something on my computer, But I don't know what and I don't want to format.

The speed thing could be caused by using "old" CD-R's, if they're 24x CD-R's than some programs don't let you select a faster speed than that.
What errors do the programs give you while burning?
How fast is your comp? (CPU/RAM/HD).

My specs are...
Celeron 600
30gb Maxtor 7200 HD
192mb Ram
And I will get the exact errors next time I try to burn something.
And Dabom, I already did all those updates.
