Installed 64mb t.v. out AGP video card on computer running XP pro. when I reboot I get a black screen. card properly seated and mother baord has no onboard graphics or sound to disable. How can I install drivers when the screen is black? what am I doing wrong? could new card actually be faulty?

It is possible that the card is faulty.

If you can, try out the card in another system if you have one.

i thought of that too, but my childrens machine has a baby motherboard. dont have access to any other machines. is there anything elese I can try?

Can you even boot to safe mode? Or do you just see nothing at all on the screen at any time? If you never see anything at all on your screen (no memory check, etc), the video card is faulty or incompatible with your system.

No the screen is permanently black.
what do you mean the card could be incompatable?
Its an AGP board and my motherboard doesn't have onboard sound or video. My vendor says my motherboard is ok with an AGP card.

Does your computer beep at you when you turn it on and there's no video? Does it make the normal boot noises like the fans and drives spinning?
Your card is probably dead and needs replacing.

Depending on the age of the motherboard, it may well be incompatible with that AGP card. Does the motherboard supply 1.5 Volts to the AGP slot? (AGP x4 Compliant) Both the card and the motherboard may be a determining factor.

It's probably just a faulty card though unless your motherboard is fairly old. It may also be a power supply issue but there's no way to determine anything unless you try the card in a different system to find out if it is the card that is bad.

I think I'll send the card back for replacement. Thanks for your help.
