Ok after i formatedmy computer and reinstalled everything etc my sound didnt work. so i tried installing drivers for it and nothing worked i tryed to get it auto detected and it couldnt find it so i selected it from the list and instaleld it and everything and then i restarted and the sound worked but now its choppy and i mean VERY choppy it can only play like 1 seconds worht of asound then it will puase then play then puase.....

so whats goin on?

System specs, soundcard, and OS would help.

First thing like Tecil said.

Try removing the card from Device Manager, then shut down the machine and physically remove the card. Boot up into 'Safe Mode' and makes absolutely sure that there are no sound cards listed under 'Sound, Video and Game Controllers' in Device Manager. Then, reboot as normal and just check the same thing again. If all seems well, down the machine and reseat the card into the machine (try it in a different slot if possible). Then restart the machine and let Windows install the driver.

Stick around for more suggestions.

i already tried everything you suggested Tweaker. but here are my sys specs.

Processor: AMD K62 400Mhz
Mem: 128Mb
Vid Card:Voodoo3
Sound Card: Sound Blaster 16
OS: Win ME

Can't get anymore basic than with a SB16. It is supported in all Microsoft OSes from 95 and up so drivers shouldn't be a problem.

Are you using the drivers supplied with the soundcard or have you tried the newest listed on Creative's website.

Here is what I found on Creative's site.

If that doesn't work and you tried what Tweak said, I would lean towards purchasing a new soundcard. The Soundblaster Live Value can be had for anywhere from 20-40 online.

Well you could always pick up a cheapy card until you can get enough $$$. The Ensoniq cards are decent. You can find them for around $15.
