Diablo 2 FPS Problems

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

OK I have a rather large problem, I recently was getting 23-25 fps
in direct3d mode for my card, but I upgraded the drivers, now I
recieve 55-60, the problem is, the second I turn on the map it
turns to 7-10 fps with tons of skip (it varies). Since I play this
game for dueling I would enjoy the 60 fps, but I cant use the
automap because it brings my comp to a slow, is there any idea how
to fix this, its not the drivers I believe, its something with d2!
Also I tried using the little corner map, but I can only get it on
the left side, right under the text so I cant see anything on map
if people are talking, how do I move it to the right side, any help
is greatly appreciated!

Comp Info:
Processor: Celeron 500MHz (L1 cache: 32.0 Kb, L2 cache: 128.0 Kb) Ext.clock: 66MHz

Motherboard: 0608h Compaq (J1)

Video Card: Geforce 2 Mx 100/200 (32 megabytes)

Ram: 320 Mb (326 192 Kb) DIMM1: 256 Mb DIMM2: 64 Mb

OS: Windows XP Professional U.S. English 5.1 (build 2600)

Not that it's much of a comfort, but the map drags down everybody's fps a lot, not just yours. You can move the minimap from left to right (and vice-versa) by pressing "V".

If you really want the full map, and still high performance, try playing in 640*480, and turn off 3D sound if you're using that.

I would HIGHLY recommend you play in DirectDraw 2D video mode instead of Direct3D. Your framerate should improve a lot, as will system instability.
Perspective mode is really only for people with 3dfx video cards supporting Glide. The Direct3D support is a last minute addition that was poorly coded.
As for the minimap, it pulls down everybody's frames like cloud said, at least anybody NOT using a 3dfx card.
