I just got a bunch of parts, and I'm trying to put them together to make a computer, but I can't figure out how to install an operating system. I have everything hooked up, the cd drive is set as master and primary boot device, but as soon as it reads the windows cd, the monitor shuts down and the computer doesn't do anything. I've tried several windows cd's so I don't know what else to do.....any suggestions?
Hardware= amd 2100xp, abit kx7 333r motherboard...anyone with experience- help!!

If the hard drive and CD-ROM are on the same IDE channel, cable, the hard drive should be set as master and the CD-ROM should be set as slave. In your BIOS, set the hard drive as the primary boot device and the CD-ROM as the secondary, since you have no operating system on the hard drive.
After it POSTs, you should be able to boot from your ATAPI CD-ROM by pressing "enter." The operating system installation will take care of partitioning the drive.

Try booting from a startup disk to install windows instead of from the windows CD.
