The first time is funny, but when it happens again and again it gets kinda annoying after a while.

I think it's a VIA Southbridge issue of somekind that affects data transfers across the hard drives on different IDE channels. It's even worse with a Sound Blaster Live in the system and may even corrupt data if you have the 686B SB.

BIOS updates and the latest 4 in 1's are supposed to fix the problem. I used to have that happen on my Asus A7V system.

It has nothing to do with VIA.

Copy any file thats about 2GB+ in size through your average 10/100 Mbit network in any kind of windows and it happens too, VIA or not.

That happens sometimes on my system when I move or copy files from one folder to another. Kind of anoying.

It's happened to my cousin that the time went so high that it just disappeared. There was just a blank space where it said time left.

Same thing, the network was just an example.

This thread has jinxed me.

I'm experiencing this problem for the first time. I'm copying several gigabytes from one computer to the other over 100 MB ethernet.

I'm going to try to find an answer.

LOL sorry kane

Actually I was confusing it with this problem. Even without a SB Live, there are some bizarre irregularities with large data transfers across different IDE channels. It's just far worse of a problem with a SB Lice card installed.

The network error is weird though. I got the same one copying to a floppy disk before.

yeah, this isnt the first time ive gotten it, but its the first time i got it on a high-end computer, i used to get it fairly often from my old 486 - pentium2. got it like once or twice a month

I run a P3 750 and I've never experienced the problem before.

You May Not Be Able to Copy Large Files on Computers That Are Running Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 (Q259837)

That sounds like the problem a bit. However, I didn't see those error messages and this problem was supposed to be fixed with Service Pack 2.

I think they still got a problem to fix.

Well that would explain why I don't have that problem with XP Pro though.
