processes problems with NAV and taskmanager

I'm running:
Processor: Pentium IV 1380MHz Ext.clock: 100MHz
Memory: 256 Mb (261 196 Kb) RIMM1: 128 Mb RIMM2: 128 Mb
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 (32.0 Mb): 1024 x 768 - True Color (32 bit)
Sound Card: Microsoft Kernel DRM Audio Descrambler
Operating System: Windows XP Professional U.S. English 5.1
Here's my problem,
When I start-up my home computer, normally Norton Antivirus 2001 loads up with auto-protect. For the last week though, half a second after loading, Norton Antivirus AutoProtect closes itself.
I try running the actual Norton Antivirus program, NMain.exe and the program does load up, but it closes after half a second.
Today, the same thing started happening with my Windows TaskManager when i try to open it up. Somehow though, i did manage to virus scan c:\ and norton didn't find any viruses.
So, i repeatedly open up the taskmanager and (in half-second intervals) look in the processes... with rapid clicking, i manage to end the following processes:
msspooldrv.exe located in C:\Windows
win32hlp.exe located in: C:\Windows\System32
helper.exe located in C:\Windows\System32
After ending those processes, Norton Antivirus works fine now, and after just ending msspooldrv.exe my taskmanager works perfectly fine.
Now, when I shut down/restart my computer, these processes are gonna load up again and mess things up.
Is it okay for me to delete them off my hard-drive, or at least quarantine them?
They all appear to be system files and I'm hesistating to remove them for fear of even worse problems that may result.

First thing I would do would be to go to the Norton online free virus and security scan run it, just to make sure you don't have a virus.

Alternatively, free anti-virus software at www.freeav.com

(Well, if he's already got Norton, I thought he might want more Norton )

Those files are related to printing and the 'help' command in various apps, and therefore look like to me important parts of anyone's system.
I'd want to know why they're running. They don't normally run unless you've just used some print command or some help command.

I end the processes and they come back up at restart of my computer.
Dealing with the printer, I suppose I should note that I get multiple queued-for-print files called "EPSON DUMMY" whenever I switch users on my XP... which may be the cause of some of the processes starting up, but I have no clue why there should be anything in my printer queue.
I'm planning to go out and buy Norton 2002 today.
Hopefully that should solve some of the issues.

Type in the "Run" command "msconfig" and disable (uncheck) on the "Startup" tab what you do not want to run when Windows initiates. Go to the "Administrative Tools" click on the "Services" tab and set them to "Manual" instead of "Automatic".
* Also NAV 2001 is not compatible with XP.. you have to go to NAV 2002.
