China Orders Shut Down of Web Cafes

China has ordered the shut down of intenet cafes across Beijing after a fire killed 24 people.
Wired has this story posted this story from Reuters (which is currently having some problems):
BEIJING -- Beijing has ordered its 2,400 Internet cafes to close for safety inspections after a fire at an unlicensed cafe killed 24 people, a city official said Monday. Only 200 would be allowed to reopen.
The closures ordered by Beijing Mayor Liu Qi coincide with a crackdown on Internet cafes nationwide meant to tighten Chinese government control of Web use.
Officials contend that Internet cafes are polluting the minds of children and teenagers with pornography and subversive material. Internet cafes are required to install special software to track which sites users visit, and thousands have been closed for failing to do so.
The fire was apparently caused by 2 teenagers who were not allowed to surf at the cafe. Read more on that here. Details of China's lockdown are here.

I suppose anyone caught surfing subversive material will be ran over by tanks. China. What a horrible place to live.
