Today, the Federal Trade Commission accused Rambus of violating antritrust laws:

LOS ALTOS, Calif. (CBS.MW) -- Rambus shares tumbled to an all-time low Wednesday after the memory chip designer was accused in a Federal Trade Commission suit of violating antitrust laws.

The FTC charged Rambus with deliberately engaging in a pattern of anticompetitive practices that resulted in adverse effects on competition and consumers.

Because of the accusation, Rambus's stock has already dropped 36%. CBS Marketwatch has more here. Also, the US Department of Justice is looking over Micron, Samsung, and Infineon with questions of anticompetive practices. C|Net has more on that here.

Their stock has droped yet Rambus chips still cost an arm and a leg....

The companies stock prices aren't going to effect the cost of the product. Quite the opposite, in fact.

So what happens if Rambus goes under? Is everyone that uses it screwed?

I wouldnt mind if Intel purchased them seeing as how they are the only CPU maker that uses Rambus.

Rambus never had a product. They had a technology and licensed it.

Just because they get into trouble, doesn't mean the technology is lost. Just transferred.
