GTA3 Problems

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: computernerd

I just got GTA3 and i'm having some problems with it. First is the slowdown. And second is it won't load any of my saved games.

My system specs:
799 AMD Athlon
128 MB ram
Direct X 8.1
nvidia TNT drivers
Win XP Professional

reinstalling did not get rid of this problem

It is probaly your XP

Posted by: Null Actor

Slowdown will be because you are using a 4 year old graphics card. Time to upgrade.

As for not loading saves... I have no idea. Maybe a game bug... did you check for a patch?

Posted by: Freak

GTA 3 is currently very very buggy with all versions of Windows XP. All you can do is wait for a patch

Posted by: BW

Yes, upgrade vid card. Any old 32mb vid card isn't enough even though that's what the box only suggested.

Did you buy GTA3? People with pirated GTA3 could not load saved games.

I'm running it on an old ATI 32MB Radeon with half view distance in 640x480x16 and it runs well enough to be played without getting horribly lagged.
Of course, the rest of my system is way above recommended with a 1.4GHz TBird and 512 RAM, so that's probably why.

I have a geforce 3 ti500 running win2k and gta3 tells me i dont have enough video memory to run the game???? now how does that make sense.....

Posted by: Bobaroo

What are the rest of your system specs?

Posted by: philmcneal

did patch 1.1 came out to fix problems?

Posted by: Tecil

I'm running it on XP Pro with a Ti4400. Running it at 1280x1024x32 with max detail and draw distance. Works fine on my system.

Try the 1.1 patch and there is also a Microsoft fix for a bug with nVidia chipsets and XP that they posted a fix for. I've read a few people having problems with this. Mainly it just blocks all of the menus out so you can't read what they are.

What happens exactly when you try to load up a save game?

Posted by: philmcneal

what's the diff between pc and ps2 version?

Posted by: Tecil

The PC version supports higher resolutions and the use of MP3s as one of the radio stations. Other than that not much. The graphics are a little crisper on PC.

That and you can use the mouse/keyboard combo that makes it a lot easier to aim.

Posted by: philmcneal

hm ...... * hugs ps2*

btw will I run gta3 smoothly with these specs?

amd duron 1 ghz
512 ram of DDR
win xp professional ( AHEM ** )
gforce 2 mx400 64 meg video
with lastest drivers blah blah the like :P

just wanted to see what the graphics were like...

Posted by: Tecil

Yeah shouldn't be too much of a problem. Try 800x600x32 with the draw distance turned down and it should run decent.

Posted by: philmcneal

decent? ugh... i thought i can full blown it on 800 x 600 .... with smoothness...

man time to upgrade soon =/

Whats a Ti4500 is that a Ti4400 that has been overclocked, or a Ti4600 that has been underclocked?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Posted by: Tecil

My bad Ti4400. Me and my fingers of fury.

I would suggest no longer discussing what pirated or cracked games you have, please thank you...

Piracy discussion? Why, there's not piracy discussion here!

*whistles innocently*
