Police officers have raided many homes in Ohio for illegally uncapping their cable modems:

TOLEDO -- Police officers and FBI agents raided several local homes Wednesday, and seized computer equipment. Detectives searched homes in Toledo, Sylvania, Sylvania Township, Perrysburg and Oregon as part of a 4-month investigation of computer hackers. Investigators tell us criminals have ripped off Buckeye Cablesystem for more than $200,000 dollars.

Investigators visited the homes of 19 suspects and executed 13 search warrants throughout Lucas county. They say the hackers altered the equipment, giving them enhanced access to Buckeye Express. It allowed the hackers to quickly download files, games and videos. Buckeye says the illegal activity steals space and speed and bogs down their high speed Internet service. "So while the one customer is stealing bandwidth from me is running very fast, all of the other customers are running very slow so they are literally taking money and product out of my other customers pockets." said Paul Shryock of Buckeye Cablesystem.
