i was just wondering how hard it would b for companies to make games where the models actually hada think of what they di instead of just hack and slash and each other ... actually move during battle to avoid blows and such ... justa question i thought wuld b nice to ask its been on my mind

Neverwinter Nights already incorporates "dodging" and "blocking" of some kind, depending on the attack rolls and such... it's more of an AI technology than anything else...

Actually EQ takes into account many of the things you are talking about. Besides the skill table below, for a warrior, there are special defensive skills you can get after you achieve level 50 for each melee class. Monks get special martial arts type kicks. The actual skill level you can achieve is based on your current leve (sometimes current level +1) times a factor (depending on your class it can be from 4 to 7).
For example: the maximum skill ability for a level 10 warrior on most of the below skills would be 55 out of 200 possible.
Every time your character goes up a level he then has to learn/train by combat actual to improve his skill to the new cap for that level.
This sort of all happens behind the scenes though. However for those skills that you do not get, until you reach a certain level, you must first put a practice point in that skill before you can start leveling up in those skills

Hmmm, so does the EQ graphics show the warrior visibly "dodging" the blows, or does it just ignore the blows to present an impression of "dodging" them based on the defensive stats?
Because in a recent game like Dungeon Siege, there are no "dodge" animations ... in a duel, two characters just keep swinging at each other, hit or miss...

i play eq with the first person view on, so i cant tell. but she grunts and occasionally screams when she gets hit ^^

Monks dodge with the old graphics. I think they crouch. Not sure.
