Video Card Shootout with Unreal Tournament 2003
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)
Posted by: Bobaroo
Anandtech has taken 16 video cards and put them up against each other in Unreal Tournament 2003
The Cards range from a Radeon 7500 and 8500. To a GeForce 2, 3 and 4.
With a number of upcoming games based on the latest Unreal Engine, performance under this benchmark is extremely important. The numbers we've shown you today are more important than any Quake III score or any number of 3DMarks because they are produced from an engine that will the backbone of many next-generation games to come; the obvious being Unreal II and of course, Unreal Tournament 2003 but also games like Deus Ex II.

Yeah.. and my GF2 is gonna own!

The GF2MX 200(1024x768 High Detail Settings) gets the same FPS in UT2003, that I get in CS(800x600)now.

No it won't because in the benchmarking they had no sound card...that boosts FPS because sound uses quite a lot of CPU cycles. Also, this is just the levels, without any real 'playing' in it.
And, Why in the hell is the GeForce4 Ti 4200 64ddr outperforming the same card with 128 ddr??

Becasue the 64mb version has more Memory Bandwidth.
But I am suprised that the 128mb version is faster at higher resolutions.

Both versions of the 4200 have the same memory timings.
However, memory addressing the extra 64 megs would cause a very slight speed hit, enough to make the 2 or 3 frames of difference you see.

The memory clock speeds are different on the 4200 64mb and 128mb versions. The 128mb has 444mhz ddr and the 64mb has 500mhz ddr.
I think this was to keep price down on the 128 version.

Well it was an interesting read. It at least told me that my Geforce 3 isn't dead yet...at any rate.

Yeah, just looked it up. Pretty stupid IMO, though I suppose when the 4400 is only 20$ more than the 4200 128... what's the point? heh

I'm glad I got my Ti4400 then.
I'm actually kind of excited for UT2003. Hopefully it gets released on its projected date.

which is?

So far Gamestop lists it as 7/30 and EB has it for 8/13. Hasn't listed as being gone gold yet though.
Posted by: Bobaroo
wow...So it is pretty close.

I'll take this moment to be a bastard and rub in the fact that I've been playing it for months

I think you've made that clear in the past Nova.
Damn you and your backdoor ways...err that didn't come out right.
Being a game programmer definately has its benefits. But then again so does being an administrator for your local sheriff's office.

You should tell those people to leak less beta's, I've seen about a dozen different versions.
Posted by: Null Actor
It's not DE that's leaking anything.
Posted by: Outlaw
But I would think that it's someone from the inside, or are there that many people that are testing it?
Posted by: Null Actor
It's not just the developer who has builds. Publishers also have them.

Hmm... didn't think about that.
