Diablo II Character Problem...

Okay, I got this in the email and I thought I should post it here so that we can help him better.
Quote:

Hi, i am a Diablo 2 player on Battle.net under the account of : Bogins, and have recently had a problem which has yet to go away. This problem happened around 7:45 p.m October 21, when i tried to play on my lvl 76 Barbarian, and i noticed whenever i tried to join a game, it would say "failed to join".

I figured i would just need to reboot, and everything would be alright, but when i returned, same thing, "failed to join". I then went on my other characters, and none of them had problems entering games, and it is now 10:20 p.m October 21, and the problem has not gone away.

I was wondering if other people were having the same problem, and if there is a way to fix it....

Thank you,

Account: Bogins
Character: Happy_Barb

I have emailed him this thread so that he can see any answers we can give him.

Note: Please do not email your questions to OpenTechSupport.Net .. this is why the forums are here, so that more people can help in answering problems. If we answered emails, only one person will be gettings answers, and it will prevent other people who are experiencing the same problems from learning the possible solutions. If you don't find the answers in this forum, email Blizzard directly at support@blizzard.com .

Hmmm I'm not sure but that's only a (barely) 3-hour time span in which he has experienced that problem.

I'm thinking that it was just a temporary Bnet screwup, and that it should be okay by now...

If it isn't... *shrug* Does creating games work?

I had problems with the West server last night so I think it's the servers.

A "failed to join" message is common during high-traffic hours of internet and battle.net usage (i.e. most evenings from about 7:30 to midnight or so). Not only are your ISPs experiencing heavy workload and high demand, but battle.net servers are as well. Battle.net servers get overloaded and all sorts of strange things happen.. like "failed to join" messages or random game crashes.

If the problem doesn't correct itself eventually (and by eventually, I mean give it 24 hours or so before you consider it an actual problem), let us know. Also, check http://www.battle.net for updates on battle.net status.

One more thing to try: Try logging off, closing your game, deleting the file bncache.dat and then logging back on to battle.net (WARNING: your game application MUST be closed in order for this to work!).
